GMPP Support?

Ford has an entire Ford Racing catalog of hotrod parts for the new Mustang, many of which won't void your warranty. Mopar has similar offerings. I'd really like to see GM Performance Parts do the same thing on the 5th gen. I don't know if there's any plans in the works already, but it would be cool to have factory performance parts available.

Maybe Scott can give us an answer without actually answering anything?

I was fortunate enough to be discussing this very thing, with an Accessories Manager with GM Canada...and although he couldn't go into detail...he did say they have a lot of great things in the pipeline for this car...when I questioned him on the performance end of things...he just smiled a sly little smile...so I don't think we have anything to worry about! The future...does indeed...look bright!

I was fortunate enough to be discussing this very thing with Scott, a few months after the first concept was rolled out. GM knows we want this. While I didn't get any sort of confirmation, I did get a good feeling about this topic.

I see that the V8 being the Big Block of today and I see the 3.6 being the Small Block of the future.

With the growth of the 3.6 in the future I see offering performance parts for it as important or more impoertant than the V8.

The new engine is giving us real everyday V8 power from a V6 package with no supercharger or Turbo like in the past. If the parts are readily available they will make the 3.6 a more economical engine not only to drive but to enhance.

Keep in mind with the 3.6 in many different cars parts could be used in many differnt vehicles helping drive down the cost just as the SBC did in the 60's.

With gas going up the V6 is the Camaro's first stringer for volume sales and that is where the money is made. Ford has screwed up for year never offereing much for their 3.8 as I could have sold many parts for the Rangers and Mustangs if they were available.

I just hope GM is already working with the aftermarket and not GM Performance Parts. Companies Like Edlebrock and Flowmaster are the ones who can make or break a new car by their offordable offerings. Just look how the aftermarket help build the Fox 302 Mustang into a affordable performance car for many high schoolers and the like over the years.

If they could turn a pigs ear into silk just think what they can do to a good car.

I have no doubt in my mind that GM is fully aware of the potential for profit to be had by keeping basic mods/bolt-ons in house, thru GMPP. Why let the aftermarket reap those rewards when you gotta know that this aspect of the business is a definite given?!?
Do a bit of research and see what GMPP has available for the supercharged Cobalt and that might send a message about where they're focused these days... that being said, I'm really hoping that any GMPP stuff for the 5th Gen is warranty-friendly!

Best regardSS,

Elie
