Here's the Z28 news
Will there be a Z28 model?
CP: "There will be no Z28 model. Through the four generations of Camaro, there have been cases where Chevrolet chose to make the Z28 the top dog or the SS the top dog. As you're aware, Chevrolet is encouraging the SS strategy with cars such as the HHR SS and Cobalt SS. Consistent with this strategy, we have a Camaro SS."

as far as us talking, ask away, if its in the spec sheets, press release, or on chevrolet.com, we are free to discuss. There is no mention of Z28. In fact, as far as I know, that is the first time anyone at GM has said anything "on the record" aside from "no comment" to the media about Z28.

This is a little more than we heard earlier though:
CP: "On the V-8 SS model there is a front fascia that looks similar to the concept car. There is a small lip above the upper grille, it has a larger lower grille opening than the V-6, and the SS has 20-inch wheels, whereas the six-cylinder has 18-inch and 19-inch wheels. The SS also has a subtle spoiler, standard Brembo brakes, and a blackout rear diffuser around the exhaust tips. All models will have dual exhaust - the V-6 has three-inch tips and the SS tips measure three and three-quarters of an inch. The SS interior will have 'SS' embroidery on the headrest, steering wheel, and instrument cluster. Both base models have halogen headlamps, and there are HID headlights available with the RS package."

I'm shocked to see Cheryl's comments in print... but there it is in black and white.

1st Question. What was the talk about the rear bumper and why it was changed from the very smooth and clean design of the concpet? Why add the extra cut lines in when they really didn't need to be added. Why place the reverse lights there and not someplace else that doesn't chop a hole in the rear fascia? Any comments from GM on this?
2nd Question. Curb weight. I know you said they have dropped a few pounds from May but it's still high. What reasons did they give as to why this car is the heaviest Camaro ever? The car is full of airbags and I know those are heavy but did they discuss this topic?

Taking a deep, sorrow filled breath.........
1. GM is in the worst cash crisis it has ever faced.......
2. Even IF they were thinking about a Z/28 (top dog) model, they would NOT tell anyone at this point....would kill some SS sales...
As far as I (and others in these here parts) am concerned, I am a (very) little bit happy about the possible suspension of the Z/28 program as I understood it to be....what?!?!? you ask??
I think the program lost it's focus when they decided to add the LS9 SC engine.....more power (read: more weight) is NOT what we wanted.....not AT ALL.
What we wanted is a LIGHTER, more race focused package.....the LS3 is fine, thank you very much.
I believe that this kind of a Z/28 would not only be more representative of what the Z/28 is SUPPOSED to be, but also MUCH more palatible in today's market ...and possibly even cheaper to produce.
When the current cash crisis passes (and I believe it will) maybe they can refocus the program to what we wanted in the first place.........
