Here's the Z28 news

I'm not happy about the Z28 comments, in this interview, but I can't help but recall what 'Father stated a few days ago about it NOT BEING DEAD. I'm holding out hope, but am very unhappy with this single apparent fact (at least at this point.)
I believe 'Father and other individuals involved with the car have already pointed out exactly why the styling changed on the rear cover - for crash protection and standards. If I am not understanding your question, I am sorry
Do you know why the last generation was so much lighter? Because it wasn't nearly as good and solid a car! Quality costs weight, unless you want to pay WAY more for exotic materials. I don't understand the constant b*tching about the weight because if you want a flimsy car, go find a used 4th. Gen., but if you want an car that feels substaintial and doesn't flex and rattle, then you need to invest in more materials to make it rigid. Don't you think GM would want to be as efficient as possbile with weight so as to get higher EPA numbers?! Come on...

Will there be a Z28 model?
CP: "There will be no Z28 model. Through the four generations of Camaro, there have been cases where Chevrolet chose to make the Z28 the top dog or the SS the top dog. As you're aware, Chevrolet is encouraging the SS strategy with cars such as the HHR SS and Cobalt SS. Consistent with this strategy, we have a Camaro SS."

If we're only getting one than isn't it top dog by default? If this decision was set in stone some time ago why would you even bring up "top dog" when it's basically irrelevant?
Either: they were thinking about doing something dumb like making a V6 an SS or something like that, or that was just pandering to show that she "gets it," or the matter isn't settled.
Then the whole "SS strategy," they've still got Z designations on Corvette and trucks so...
That answer was wierd and unsatisfactory. 420 hp is a lot, and maybe they figure between Corvette and two CTS-Vs they have the high dollar, high hp market covered, if so, they probably should have just said that, as talking about the history of a model you just killed isn't going to engender nice thoughts.
I don't think it's dead, but they're still reeling from $4 gas, obviously they're considering a 4 cylinder. If this car sells well, which I think it will, and the other comparable products sell, it will happen eventually.

That's the one I was thinking of. Thanks. I thought I dreamed it.

I, of course, don't believe that. Z28 is THE Camaro legend and they know it, alot more important to the brand than SS ever will be.
If they talk about a GT500 fighter now, which was never intended to come out during the first year like how it was done with the Z06, more people would hold out and not buy first year Camaro SS's and this is a business. It's still in development and probably suspended for a while. Do you really think they intend to let the M*stang and Challenger be the better performing cars and steal all the spotlight in the magazines and on the streets? That's not what the Camaro or Chevrolet is about with a car like this. FBF said the car was still on himself. He said there would be a Camaro when no one believed, (I did) I think that's enough for me.

while that is disturbing, nothing is ever cast in stone. I for one am dreaming of a z28 convertible.. but if it is not to be, then ill probably settle when i have moeny for whatever the top dog is..... now, that being said, if Z/28 wasnt the top dog, would i still have bought it? yes. I want all my cars to be z28's.. from here on out. New or old, im not buying anything unless its a z28.. and as for the 4th gen ss's, yes, i'd buy one, because they still are z28's with appearance packages in my book lol
