I would have posted the same thing on the corral, or stangnet. I think the SN95s looked good, especially the 99+, extremely especially the Cobras and Mach 1s. I just really don't like the new S197 Mustang. It is just too sad looking, and too fat looking. The Challenger doesn't do it for me either. It is too much of an exact copy of the original, which really disappoints me, because I expected more from Dodge.

So far, I really like what I've seen of the Challenger. Regardless, I'd have to see both the other 2 (Camaro & Challenger) in the flesh, and in production trim before deciding which I liked best.

I'd also have to wait and see if the 2009 Mustang changes significantly (we're seeing a car that is already 2 model years old), as both the Camaro and Challenger are likely 09 MYs.

That is true, and I keep forgeting that. I would bet the Mustang will still look pretty fat after its reskinning, but I hope it won't look as sad when it is coming at you.

It is true that it is too soon to judge the Camaro and the challenger. I am not sure how to answer this question. I guess I would have to say Camaro because I like Camaros. I guess that is all I can say about that.

Man, it feels weird to see Camaro as an option again..
W/o a finished product, I said Mustang...the Camaro is kinda weird looking, and the Challenger front is way too retro.

Camaro

Well seeing as the Camaro and Challenger are concepts and have that added flare, Ill take the Mustang GT concept from 2003 into account. http://www.stangnet.com/mustanggtcon...indexpage1.htm

That said, I put the Mustang concept 2nd, Challenger 3rd.

After seeing that Mustang concept again, it definatly looks more modern than the Camaro concept in the pictures but it is still just a clay model. Now, the production Mustang looks much more bland than the concept and I think a bit more retro.

I think what i said when I saw the Camaro was:
"Huh........................(long Pause).......................alright."

Re: Which is the hottest looking ponycar?

I can't make an accurate call until I see all 3 in the flesh. So far I've only got an honest opinion on 1 of them, and it's not the Camaro (yet). I have to say, Ford did something right with the '05 Mustang, and I actually do like it. Flame away, but I liked the way they went retro with it. Thing is, I never paid much attention to the redesign long before it came out, I just saw the actual finished product, and I liked it (call me "average-Joe citizen" in that case). However, since we're all so wrapped up in the 5th-gen Camaro and have had so much time to give our opinions beforehand, we all feel like GM should have "heard" our wishes and designed the car to each of our personal tastes. But now that the retro thing has already been done (Mustang) it feels like GM is just jumping on the band wagon, and to some it may not be as exciting to see a retro Camaro as it might have been if GM did it first.

BUT anyway, I think I like the looks of the concept (clay model) and hope I really like the car when I finally see it in person .

Notice that none of the cars above pays any particular homage to anything predating it. IMO, it's kinda weak for the new muscle/ponycars to so unabashedly play on a sense of nostalgia rather than trying to make NEW legends. But I'm sure that's just me, right?

Re: Which is the hottest looking ponycar?

I'm trying not to look at the "Camaro" pics again until I see the thing in the flesh. But based on the limited pics of the Camaro, and the more finished looking images of the Challenger, I would rank them like this:

1) Camaro, hands down the best shape and overall look. They would have to really mess up the front/rear to change that. Inspired by the past without being a carbon copy of the original. Looks wicked, almost like what a kid would dream up and draw in study hall, but brought to life in a buildable way.

2) Mustang. A cool looking car, with the heavy-looking rear end (and the huge dual grilles dominating the front on the GT500/Shelby version) holding it back a bit.

3) Challenger. Looks too cartoonish, almost. It isn't just retro, it looks like someone took a car straight from the '60s/'70s and put big wheels on it. The Mustang looks like a modern interpretation of a cool looking car from the past, and the Camaro looks almost like a futuristic car inspired by the original.

I'm a bit biased. Tough.

Re: Which is the hottest looking ponycar?

Well lets see............... the only Ponycar that exists is the Mustang. Thus, I had to pick that.

To compare a Challenger concept, and a Camaro concept, to a production Mustang is kinda silly............. don't you think??? They ALL will lose something when in production trim........... even if its only the wildly huge wheels/tires, and the slammed to the ground stance.

When we see production versions of the Challenger, and the Camaro, then I will comprare them to the "then" production Mustang (as it should change some by then also). Until then, I had to vote for the only one out there.

Sorry to be so logical. LOL

What's so hard to pick a car based on available pictures?

Stop reading so much into this.
