I was excited since the death in '02 to see something good happening, so I put my name on my dealer friend's list for #1 Camaro when I picked up my TBSS. Anyone else feel and do the same is the only question? Sorry for the rant.

Re: How many have deposits/on list?
now now.......play nice everybody..........
GM does not have anything to do with lists nor do we encourage deposits.
That said, Guy is pretty much right (altho I know of several people who have sat in it!)
...but....I can name at least a dozen dealers who have been approached well over 6 months ago that have agreed that "IF" the Camaro comes back, they have one or two good customers that will be the first to get one thru their dealership. NONE of these dealers would accept a deposit....it's simply not good business. NOW.....if and when we send out dealer order guides and allow dealers to order such a car......then I think it would be appropriate for the dealer to then ask for a deposit IF the vehicle is somewhat 'different'...not quite 'mainstream'...........
Let's remember what this particular forum is for........Camaro. (friend, pal, comrade)

I'm going to be waiting a year or so after the first year of production so the kinks will be worked out and model lineup will fill out.

Really! Give the guy a break. I mostly lurk here, but I can tell you that the tone of some of the responses people give are a little nasty and over the top. Don't drive away enthusiasts by attacking them and calling them stupid. And disecting someones post and attacking them line by line is pathetic. If you don't have an opinion on somebody's inquiry, move on to the next thread.

you are correct.......and I'm as guilty as any sometimes due to frustration.
Because this forum is for Camaro and 5th gen, I really think we need to keep in mind what the name Camaro means.
I'm gonna dig out the Pete Estes quotes tomorrow ...if I remember.....and post them ......perhaps JasonD or Chris will put 'em on the main page for a while............

Re: How many have deposits/on list?
Hey JasonE, this is worse than when the solstice concept was introduced. We had people comming in two days after the concept was shown saying they wanted to put a deposit down on the car. This is what happens sometimes, people see a concept car, think it's gonna be in the showroom in about a year and go down to the dealership and try to put down a deposit. The real kicker in all of this is the not so informed sales person who doesn't know what the person is talking about

This would be awarded for the following reasons:
1. The car isn't even out in concept form yet.
2. No one in the public has seen the car yet.
3. The car hasn't even been finally approved yet.
4. No one I know (even inside of GM) has sat inside the thing yet (outside of the concept).
5. Only a complete Assclown would go to a dealer and drop off a bag of money for something that he doesn't even know when it will be out, what it will look like in the final state, and what it will cost.
6. Only someone far worse than an assclown would do this for a car like Camaro. We aren't talking about an F40, a Ford GT, or some other exclusive, limited production, sure to appriciate in value automobile.
7. And finallly..... because I simply can't think of any other thread I've read in the past 12 months more deserving.
BUT, if you are asking who has a depositr on or is on the list for the next Silverado (which should be out within 6-8 months) or the next Trailblazer (due next model year I believe), I believe there are dealers actually taking deposits on them (authorized by GM I suspect), and there would be nothing out of the ordinary.
I SINCERLY hope you mean the latter and not the former.

I remember how many people waited for days just to get a Xbox 360.

Dealers don't know squat. When I bought my 95 Z28 10 years ago, my high volume Chevrolet dealer didn't even know the 96 SS was coming out less than 6 weeks later. That was the last time I bought a new Chevrolet from him. (FWIW, I currently own six Chevrolets, three of which are Camaros, so I would consider myself a "good" customer.)
The point is, if you're asking your Chevrolet dealer when/how you can order a new Camaro, you're asking the wrong person.
