How many people don't want a mail slot on their SS?

Hello everyone. I'm try to gauge how many people would prefer not have a mail slot on their SS. I was a bit disappointed to hear that it's not functional. I'm not into fake scoops like that, now if it was a nice ram air type hood, ok, maybe. Now this isn't something that's going to make me say, "I'm not buying the car". I just feel the car looks great without it and just wondering how many people feel the same way?

In the event i actually bought one, i would prefer not to have a non-functional scoop that has what looks to be no potential for making it functional.

I'm all about CLEAN looks and styling, and I have no interest in non-functional scoops. If it did something, that would be fine, but as it is, it's a poser. I'd lose it.

Yeah, but design really likes it - along with the gold bowtie and torque gauge. Functional? Get a life CLEAN.

You know I'm kidding....not about design really liking it part though.

Something one of the GM guys (can't remember which one) confuses me. In reference to the base Camaro he said they didn't want the mail slot because they didn't want non-functional stuff on the car. (Another reason why the "gills" were filled.) Yet the mail slot remains on the SS. Conclusions?

P.S. Found it. It was GM designer Jeff Perkins: "The SS actually has a small opening in the hood, but the other models do not. We didn't want any non-functional parts on the car."

The problem is you're fighting history. The Camaro SS has had non-functional hood scoops since day one.

Hey, I went to college with Jeff Perkins at CCS in Detroit He's a good designer, and a righteous dude.

...having said that, I prefer not having a non-functional scoop. They could have distinguished the SS in other ways than that. Perhaps a different grille, or (real) louvers on the hood, or a different shaped lower grille opening. A fake scoop seems like a cop-out IMO

Non-functional scoops = stupid.

I hope there's some way to make it functional. If not, I hope an aftermarket company offers an SS-style front cover without the scoop. I'd probably end up getting a larger cowl hood.

I wonder how the mail slot disrupts the airflow over the nose.

wow...lots of hate on the scoop?
Whats with all that? Im sure the SS scoop on the 4th gens added so much more hp....
Like the engine vents in first gens, like IROC vents on third gens, its just another style element.

I wonder if someoen can make an IROC inspired hood for 5th gens!!

I'd prefer it without the scoop. It looks cheesy.
