How will insurance companies rate the 300hp V6 Camaro?
If they look at just the hp number, they might treat it as a 2002 Z28, read expensive to insure. If they figure out the weight to hp ratio, they might go a little easier on it. The 5 star crash rating will help, but until there is some actual loss data, figures will be estimated. Maybe GM would be smart to tone down actual V6 performance numbers as high insurance rates will hurt V6 sales.

It's a 300hp V6 wearing a badge associated with some of the most reckless statistically drivers on the road. And it's also the cheapest ticket to 300hp around (or at least damn near tied with caliber SRT4). I'd imagine insurance wil be pretty high. If i was a betting man, i'd venture V6 camaro insurance will be higher then for a 430hp corvette and 400HP GTO, and 350Z. Maybe not quite as bad as the 4th gen Z28 off the bat though.
And when you think of it that way, was having the base engine at 300hp really a smart move for a car they want to move 100k units a year of? A non-DI engine could have shaved money off the purchase price, and created a lower slot for insurance premiums for those that want the look without paying dearly for it.

This is true but the price of the car is a huge factor in insurance rates, not taking into account individual driving records.
Hard to believe that a $40k+ sports car is going to have lower standard insurance rates then a $25k sports car with less power.

I just went in to pay off the insurance bill for my family, and I asked about my self I am right now 19 years old....
20 Years of Age (by the time i Get my car)
No tickets (So far)
Good student discount ( Hey i work hard in school and good grades )
She asked my about what car is equivalent to the V6 camaro and I told her the Stang GT and my insurance agent gave me "You're going to pay through the nose sucker" kinda look. Kinda scared me so what I am going to do is most likely put it under my moms name. You think its going to be cheaper?

A lot cheaper. Getting your own insurance at 19 is expensive for any car, probably gonna be through the roof for anything wearing a Camaro or Mustang badge regardless of motor choice.

True its not a true comparison to a Stang GT, but the Horsepower ratings are a like. BTW I got an email from my Insurance agent and she said it was going to $700 for six months. Thats a bit to steep, so I'll probably put it under my moms name. Thank goodness for parents huh?

AAA insurance quoted me $1200 for 6 months for the Challenger SRT. Currently I am paying $780 for insurance for 6 months and that’s me being 27 and has a perfect driving record. Of course insurance prices going to be jacked up for me because I live in the inner city.
