I'm Pretty $&#@&% Sure Lutz Ain't Camaro's Daddy.
Referencing the other thread where somebody calls Lutz Camaro's Daddy...
Hey Boob, 'member the "30 year nap" comment???
I DO.
I believe a certain celestial object can lay better claim to that title, although it was nice of ya to show up for the cameras and the little brunette hottie, Bob.

Re: I'm Pretty $&#@&% Sure Lutz Ain't Camaro's Daddy.
Thank you.
Bob is the guy that could ultimately make the 5th Gen a reality.
Scott (and many others) are the ones who put everything they had into the Camaro behind the scenes...the late nights...the engineering work done "off the clock"...the dark times when Camaro's future looked its bleakest...some even staking their careers on it ("early retirement", anyone?)
Bob, thanks for saying "yes". Everyone else, thanks for making it happen!!!

Ha.... Ha.
That sure was funny. Thanks for the kick in the nuts there. While you're at it, maybe you could give the entire community a paper cut and pour some lemon juice on it.
We finally get a car because the "Dirty Tricks Department" conjures up a whopper... and here come the claimers in a stampede...
"It was my idea."
"Mine too!"
"I decided on the color!"
"I always loved the Camaro!"
"The guys with the flatscreens on their backs made the whole thing special... that was my idea!"
"I didn't say 'NO', so I made it a reality"
"I owned a Camaro Matchbox once."
Especially annoying since there are members of that crowd there who crowed mightily when they put the bullet in the back of the head of our beloved car in 2002.
In all the excitement of the unveil, even I lost sight of a critical fact...
The car NEVER should have been allowed to languish in the first place. It NEVER should have been killed. It NEVER should have had ZERO advertising exposure.
It might not be the flagship, but it sure as hell deserved higher priority than the *#$^&@# 19 SSR's and 20,000 Solstices GM's going to sell a year. I mean really, WHAT IDIOT IS GOING TO STROLL INTO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHERE A FREAKING CORVETTE AND AN SSR ARE IN THE SHOWROOM FOR THE SAME PRICE AND WALK OUT WITH THE SSR?!?!?!?
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad a Camaro is coming. I certainly appreciate the reception and the Autoshow unveil and everything, that was a really classy move. But we, as Camaro friends, owners, devotees, faithful, etc... deserved a lot better than what happened to our car.
More importantly, SO DID GM. GM's average shareholders and employees DESERVED better than the shameful nonsense that went on.
GM needs to understand CLEARLY that there is a debt to be paid here to make up for treating a cherished nameplate, shareholders, employees and loyal customers so badly.
And if GM wants to pay that debt, this car had better be FLAWLESS from bumper to bumper.
/rant
Sorry all. That one just really got to me.

I thought of it on the toilet last night... we'll subcontract a whole bunch of engineering to a Tier II for a pseudo-performance truck that costs as much as a Corvette instead!!!"

Christ, the more I think about the whole situation, the more pissed off I get.
I hate recriminations and hindsight, an 9 times out of 10 I'd rather see folks just move forward instead of second-guessing.
But I am left with the inescapable conclusion that we should have seen this year's concept in 2001 for an SORP in 2003.

Re: I'm Pretty $&#@&% Sure Lutz Ain't Camaro's Daddy.
The people that pushed for this car was the enthusiasts. Not to sound too self centered.
Red was instrumental in organizing our thoughts into GM corp. actions and their considerations of our opinions.
(I'm sure there are alot of folks on the inside of GM that I'm leaving out though)
Off topic today, on the news, an anchor was covering a volvo at the Houston car show, the weather man was really insistant that the other guy get a shot of the Camaro (the weather dude really liked it), but that bastard Lany Grifith wouldn't!

How can anyone compare the Corvette and SSR? The Corvette is America's Sports Car, the SSR is a truck. (A hot rodded version of a truck mind you, but a truck nonetheless.)

Re: I'm Pretty $&#@&% Sure Lutz Ain't Camaro's Daddy.
I remember Lutz's comment about the return of the Camaro and Firebird. Pretty ridiculous statement when viewed from the present day's vantage point.
The Camaro should have never been killed (or put on "hiatus" is the more PC term I believe). It happened though, and there is little we can do about it now.
