Indy 500 Pace Car

Saw this topic being discussed on Camaro5, but the question was not answered. Does anybody know if the Camaro will be the pace car in 2009 or will it be another vette? Is there a date for any announcement? Fbodfather... any insight on this?

Also here is the link to the discussion on the other board:

I have the same question. I'm heading to the race for the first time ever this year. I'm counting on it being there! I would think so but, you never know.

The "Camaro guy" at the Indy auto show told me that the speedway wanted a Camaro pace car but GM couldn't produce 50 verts for the parade and the coupe wouldn't do. He also said he's holding out for a vert pacecar next year. Take it for what it is, I'm just relaying the info I got.

It will be there in one way or another. Last year they had Bumblebee and the blue ZR1 at the Chevy tent, as well as many many other cars. I would bet on the Corvette being the Pace Car again this year. It's always cool to see Indy 500 Corvettes driving around Indy during the Month of May.

You'll have a blast at the race Make sure to show up a couple hours prior to the race so you can park a little closer, and check out the infield for vendor displays. Don't forget to pack a poncho just in case...you have to love Indiana weather!

EDIT: The above is misleading. It is an article about the 2009 model year Corvette, pacing the 2008 Indy 500.

That article is mis-titled for some reason. Those are the 2008 Indy pace cars, not the 2009's. They were going down the line at the Corvette plant when I was there in May, and there was one in the Museum delivery area too.

Haven't seen the 2009 Pace car yet, but I THINK they made a deal for Corvette to be the official pace car for a number of years, though I don't know how long that is in effect.

Oh I get it...it is a 2009 model year Corvette, pacing the 2008 Indy 500. I suppose my previous post should be disregarded.. I thought that color scheme had been out for a while. I don't pay much attention to Corvette stuff, I am a Camaro guy.

The pace cars pictured were MY2008's, the only thing incorrect is the title of the article. It was published in Dec 2007 and should have said 2008 Indy 500, not 2009 Indy 500. Besides, the Z has the '08Z wheels, not the new '09 spider wheels .

The Z06 pace car was never available for public consumption, but they made something like 500-1000 I think of the 2 tone black and silver cars. They all got Z06 spoilers curiously enough.

Here's link to one of the 2008's on sale if anyone wants to get an idea of what they might do to a Camaro if it paces at Indy.

Ya I think it kinda sucks that a 40th anniversary of the white/orange stripes goes without a modern version.
