Jay Leno Edition Camaro Concept Vid ...Z28 V6TT proposal debate in better detail

Re: Jay Leno Edition Camaro Concept Vid ...Z28 V6TT proposal debate in better detail
What about combining the suspension and handling of the 1LE Concept and the Twin Turbo and appearance of the Jay Leno Camaro? It's no doubt that the appearance accessories such as the hood and front fascia has been very popular with the 5th Gen Camaro community over the past 2-3 years. I would really like to see GM and Chevrolet to go a route that hasn't been highly explored yet. I know everybody clamors for a V8 Z28 but I just think that maybe we need to see something different, something more revolutionary in the muscle car wars instead of what some may call ...cough, cough Motortrend, Car&Driver... cough, cough... playing "catch up" against Ford. Seriously could you imagine if, and let's just say, if Chevy could step up and go toe to toe against the V8 Boss ...in a V6. That would be a an astonishing feat! Now whether to call the car a Z28 or not is always up for the debate. Maybe on the picture above I should have cationed it "Potentential as a Z28?" instead. In regards of a Z28 being a V6, I wouldn't call it a stupid idea, but rather a step towards thinking outside the box and into the future in a society that we live in with high gas prices and stupid government regulations.

I'm all for a beefed up version of the 6-cylinder with either turbos or a blower. I'm not sure which pressure inducer I would prefer, but I have leaned towards the blower. I'd really like to see some drivetrain improvements (better brakes, HP suspension parts, etc) in the 6.
A twin-turbo set-up would most likely be required to run on premium-fuel. What would be the point over the V8? For me that would be the deal breaker. The only exception being that I'd be all over a twin-turbo diesel V6 in a heartbeat.
I will agree though, the V6 is the small-block of the future. The LFX puts down amazing power while still maintaining the fuel efficiency of a V6. With gas prices creeping toward $5/gal (I saw $4.27 for 87 octane just this morning in Oakland), it seems the most logical way to go and still have a performance car.

for the next generation it does. you never know, the only v8 avaialable may be something liek the LSA in the ZL1 and the v6 tt will be standard on a ss....you never know. the way GM is going, it seems like their pushing alot of turbo4 cylinder motors and v6 into cars now. so it makes sense to turbo a v6 as a motor in a camaro.

I bet I'm the oldest fogey in this thread, but my eyes are cast firmly towards the horizon -- not in my "rear-view mirror". Come on guys, get modern.

V12's yes. My point was kinda the V12 is to the Ferrari what the V8 is to Camaro. Why cant the horizon be a V8?

I have no issues with GM making a TTV6 Camaro but like others have said, it shouldn't be badged as a Z28. And...I am waiting to see what GM does with the Z28 name since I'm not that interested in an SS and a ZL1 is about 6-8k out of my price range...

I don't think the current 3.6 can handle it.....if it could, there would be reputable name companies making supercharger / Turbo kits for it....
V6'ers are waiting.....waitin g for that "special" mod.... and it has been years now.....and it hasn't came yet.

I suspect you may be right, Scotty. Leno's car had a Tremec 6-speed (according to the video) not the Aisin model in the factory V-6. I'll bet that wasn't the only driveline piece that was strengthened for 400+ horsepower.
This is exactly what I was referring to in my Podcast voicemail regarding beefed up parts. It's not just the LS engine, alone that adds $10k plus to the price of an SS over the LS or LT cars. It's those beefier underpinnings. I'm looking for a sweet midpoint between the base model and the ZL1. Then push the SS to even higher levels of performance. That should make everyone happy.
