Is it just me, or is it the late '60s again?

Seriously. Look at all the performance cars in the current auto world.
400 HP GTO's, 500 HP 'Vettes, 425 HP Dodges/Chryslers, 300 HP Mustangs, 400+ HP Caddys, etc.
And that's just the Americans.
The Japanese have the WRX STi, the Lancer Evo, the Skyline GT-R is on the way, the 350Z, Honda will be giving the NSX a V10 in a year or so, etc.
The Germans are playing hardball too. BMW's M lineup (especially the M5 and M6), Mercedes' AMG lineup, Audi's RS cars, and Porsche has the new Cayman to throw into the mix, as well as their other autobahn burners.
Now, these vehicles run from $30,000 to $130,000. Regardless of price, though, they all share one thing in common: Power. Lots of it. the only difference between then and now is the other manufacturers. The '60s belonged to American muscle cars. Nowadays, everyone's got something to bring to the table.
I'm glad to see the Americans stepping it up, though. As much as I dislike Ford and DCX (which is now german and american), it's good to see the domestic manufacturers bringing the big guns back.

Someone made a similar post actually. I think it was guion.
I agree. Bring on the ponies! While I'm not a Ford or DCX fan either, I rejoice when I see a Mag, Charger, or Stang roaming around. Not to forget our own GTO and Vette, the upcoming Camaro, and DCX's Challenger. The road hasn't been this interesting in a while.

Is it just me, or has this been posted 20 times?
Haha I'm just kidding. Yeah it's pretty neat, the times we're living in. Here it was looking like we were never going to see an emphasis on performance again. Things are lookin' up, hopefully we continue on this path and things aren't derailed.

Also this post should be in the future vehicles forum or the lounge it has nothing to do with the Camaro concept OR NAIAS.

Agreed, everything from SUV's to wagons, coupes to sedans...they all have big HP engines. Let's not forget most get a lot better mileage and are safer than our old muscle cars as well (not knocking one for the other by the way).

Re: Is it just me, or is it the late '60s again?
I'd like to know REAL WORLD numbers on the performance of some of the big dogs from the 60's ... STOCK, from the factory performance. Anyone know where there might be some type of list with either factory claims and/or actual track results from the higher HP muscle cars?
The only PROBLEM that I see in today's world is that, while we're getting all this crazy performance from new cars, we have fewer times/places/opportunities to use it? At least back in the day, things like "street racing" were not so frowned upon ... as long as it was done in a reasonable "controlled / contained" manner (ie: out in some quiet industrial park on the outskirts of town with some spotters). If people had a place to go, then there'd be less reason to break out races all over the public roadways in the middle of everyday traffic just to get that "one shot" at the car you've been gunning for?
In terms of the cars though? I think we're just a few steps ahead of the cars from the 60's. Well, except for their "muscle" image.

I think most cars from the 60's that were badass and had tons of HP (they also rated the engine without accessories, and with headers on, etc.. so it produced higher numbers).. but that was then, and I've looked at a few muscle cars and they weren't all that great compared to now.. Like 13's, 14's, and the smaller engines 15's or so.
Stock (no mods or anything), that is. I'm sure there are faster ones, though
But the big picture is, newer cars are better. lighter, better materials. Better gas mileage, handling, etc. Last longer...
