Let's talk engines for a minute....
Does anybody else feel that the top dog engine needs to be something unique, or at least something more rare? Previously, you had the LT1 and the LS1 which were only available in the Vette and the Camaro (and the GTO, but that was after the Camaro was kaput). It just seems to me that the V8 in the Camaro has to have some kind of prestige to it.
I can't help but have the feelings in the back of my mind that if the top engine in the Z28 model is the LS2, it will seem like kind of a copout, since the LS2 is already being used in the Vette, GTO, and the Trailblazer SS.
Am I off my rocker in thinking the engine should be something shared between the Camaro and Vette only?

GTO > Camaro in the Corporate foodchain, so don't expect the Camaro to get anything the GTO doesn't.

Well i've seen some of the big dogs around here post that the chassis needed to be able to handle 500+ hp and there is one engine that only one car uses that has that amount of horses.

Re: Let's talk engines for a minute....
Let me understand this...
Its a cop out when GM puts its powerful 400hp engine in high performance, top of the line cars like the Corvette, GTO, SSR, TBlazer SS, BUT when DCX puts its 5.7 and 6.2 hemis in its top of the line cars, the 5.7 that came from the pick up trucks, its the greatest move done by any of the Big 3 since the Muscle Car itself. Explain that to me, would you please?
Anyway, I assume that the Camaro will use the 6.2 that is coming out for its top of the line model.
As for teh LS7, yeah thas a great move....but think about this.
in 1969, GM created the 69 ZL1 COPO cars. I forget who it was, but one dealer who worked with GM to do this, orderd 50 of them for his dealership, and they sat, and sat, and sat. The car was double the price of a normal V8 Camaro at the time. Hell, the engine cost more then the car. Maybe in 40 years they might be worth something.

I guess I'm saying that it doesn't do much for GM's "parts bin" stigma.

Re: Let's talk engines for a minute....
I will be happy if the car comes out soon and has a LS2 but do think it should have more HP than anything in GM's line other than a Vette say make a 100 HP jump from the last 4th gens and then let aftermarket take over. Very easy to do with a LS2 at low cost to GM

Re: Let's talk engines for a minute....
A LS7 happening in a Camaro ZL1, that'd be neat.
But repeat ZL1 from 1969 with similar pricing?
1969: Base V8 Camaro: $2726, ZL1 option: $4160
2009: Base V8 Camaro: $25,995, ZL1 option: $39,670
Nah I don't think so.
But realistically, the LS7 as the ZL1 option wouldn't need to cost $40K, but I'd figure on $20K if it happened.
But then even so, does the lineup need a $46,000 Camaro?
I've posted this engine lineup before, and I think it makes sense:
Base V6: 245hp 3.9L V6
RS: Base - 270hp 3.9L V6, optional 310hp 5.3L V8
SS: 360hp 5.3L V8
Z/28: 425hp 6.2L V8
We all know that a 425hp Chevy would be faster than a 450hp Ford
