Re: Let's talk engines for a minute....

And I believe that the "mid level" Camaro should have an LS2 then. The higher end one that comes out later can have something better.

1. 6 Cylinder
2. LS2
3. ????

It will be 2009 so who knows at what level the hp wars will be at then. A Z06 may well have a 600hp FI engine, so even an LS7 won't be out of the question, even if it isn't hand made or doesn't have dry sump oiling.

The Z28 has never been that... None of the previous arguments even approached making me think otherwise. It's pure revisionism to bring up the original 302 powered Zs and make them out to have been rulers of the street over the top SS cars... I have not really seen any insider info posted by Guy or similar to really hint at this midrange SS/topdog Z28 setup. Did I miss something, I keep seeing the same few select "non-insiders" posting how sure they are, but I'm not buying it??

I find it more likely if both models are offered at the same time (which I'm doubting for the first couple years at least) they'll have basically indentical engines with some slight suspension or cosmetic differences between the two, just like with the 4thgens and similarly the 3rdgens w/ the IROC and Z28... Guess we'll see...

I'm hoping for a version of the F119-PW-100 complete with thrust vectoring.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is that the F-22's powerplant?

how about this, then?

Base: 3.9L V6
RS : 5.3L LS4
SS : 6.0L LS2
Z/28: 6.2L LS3

Make the RS a separate model, with the entry-level V8. bump it to 325 HP, covers the Mustang GT. The SS will handle any import pretenders to the throne, and the Z/28 will take care of the DCX offerings. Sound good?

now it does.

It would be bad *** to see 427s in Corvettes AND Camaros again for the first time since the musclecar era.

yeah, that would be nice, but i'm trying to think realistically here. The Corvette guys will bitch that the LS7 is theirs and no one else's, and the whole idea will get canned. The LS3 is much more likely than the LS7 to appear in the engine bay of a Camaro.

.....Although, I'm sure the LS7 is a bolt-in away from being there

By 2009, there may be a much more powerful engine than the LS7 in a Corvette.

say it with me....Corvette LS9

if GM sees so fit, that should free up the Ls7 for "other" models

SS: 360hp 5.3L V8
Z/28: 425hp 6.2L V8
Those numbers are way to weak, especially considering how stiff the competition is getting. HP may not sell base model BS Camaros, but it will sell flagship cars. With the supposedly sporting a possible 275HP V6, and a 425HP MID-RANGE $28,000 6.1 Hemi Challenger, GM is going to seriously need to step up to the plate if they want to be competitive in performance.

I will. The Mustang GT gets a bump in power in a few years, although to what we dont know, and a Mach 1 is coming to the market. The Challenger is coming out, and the R/T could be sporting a 6.1 Hemi. I really do think that GM should give the public an LS2 for a midrange if they want to pay for it. Not everyone can afford an upper $30,000 pony car, and this would be great for the guys looking for performance.
