The Little Things

Oh.. a friend brought this up maybe a month ago or so..

On 4th gens, there's a little light near the door handle switches. This is so you can see the buttons at night. He said it's pretty damn cheap of Chevy to do that.. and I realized.. yeah.. that does seem a bit cheap.

Light-up buttons would be nice, in my opinion. Hopefully the 5th gen won't have any cheapy things about it.

Anyone have any "little things" they've found on the previous gens that should be fixed/changed?

And here I thought the little light was a cool feature, none of my other cars have had anything lighted near the window switches and such... Guess it's what you're used to...

I agree about that little light. It really was a cheapo way to go but being 4th gens were the redheaded stepchild of GM at the time, who knows what scraps they had to work with.

Of course theres the converter hump that is annoying. And not to mention all the exposed screws everywhere in the interior, from the inside door handles to the exposed boltheads holding the seats to the floor.

And how bout the thin plastic trash dash pad? The Florida sun loves to eat these things. (mine has a nice long crack in it right now )

However the 5th gen seems to have much higher support and priority than the 4th gen ever did so I doubt we'll see anything close to some of the stuff that plagued the 4th gen.

I thought it was cool myself. I never even stopped to think that it was cheap. Of course they're red and match the red backlit dash in the Trans Am....but still. I guess I just don't understand why backlit buttons would be so much better.

Re: The Little Things

i think they were great. If the light dies, it's a 30 second fix and cheap, if the backlit switches go, they're much more expensive, I had to replace them on my Ram and they were like $45 a piece.

Exactly. Cheap!

But it's more of a "let's put a hole in the interior to let light through"

Equivilant to having a single light light up the gauge cluster from INFRONT of the gauges, instead of lights behind the gauges.

That would SUCK.

My vette gauges light up from the front. It uses a black light to make the white letter "glow".

Re: The Little Things

My bigger fear is that we're going to miss "little" things that we love about our 4th gens ... like the massive range of adjusment on the power seat.

Well I like that little light. I didn't even know it existed on Camaro's until I saw it on the Firebird I used to have. Anyway, I think its cool.

Re: The Little Things

I've gotten several postive comments about the light in my 02 by passengers. I've never considered it cheap. I always thought of it as rather clever idea by someone at GM.

Re: The Little Things

I've heard "That is cool/neat" several times. I'd say maybe it was just the people in my car are easily impressed but one of them was my wife and she drives an 04 SRX loaded to the hilt.

No previous version had light up switches or even a little light.

Uh huh. I'm not talking about rainbow strobes here.

Just a light like on the 4th gen fog switch, traction control, etc. It's not a big deal or anything. it's just a little thing. a detail.

Re: The Little Things

Maybe not so little, but.....

Move the gas cap to the passenger side. I'm always afraid I'm going to hit my (HUGE) door on that concrete around gas pumps.
