Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
so z28 is going to be top dog......so im guessing im not going to be able to afford one just yet...... i guess they learned some lessons from porsche....take material away and charge more $. i personally dont thinkit should be more than the zl1....but nowim almost positive its going to be more.
It is kind of weird that the F-body died out because it was too expensive, when compared to the Mustang which cost less and therefore sold more but now it's like... they're just going crazy with the price tag.
Soon as you start talking 50-60K I'm looking at a BMW or Mercedes. Not "Chevrolet".

a chrome accent within the grille on RS further accentuates the front of Camaro.

Well that confirms it for me, although we have only seen the Z/28 and the SS w/ RS package, unless the Z/28 is affordable, I'd lean toward a non-RS 1SS/1LE if I were purchasing a 2014 Camaro.

And I still want to see the color coordinated grilles.

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
I think GM forgot who the Camaro's market was. Here's a clue... it's not people with 60K to burn for a car... that's what the Corvettes role is.

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
Of course it would be nice to afford one.....but there is just too much serious hardware in the car for it to be priced around 30k. Chevrolet won't sell many Z/28s at all, but that isn't the point. It's a car for Camaro Z/28 enthusiasts with a good amount of disposable income. That segment is small, but again, it doesn't really matter. The V6 and SS cars to a lesser extent are the key models. Everything else is icing.

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
Wow, this car is simply amazing. When I read the rumors about an LS7 Camaro for 2014, I just assumed it would be a LS7 ZL1 with different body work. I am completely blown away what Chevy has done with the Z/28. To put such resources into such a small production run vehicle, well that's just unheard of for these times. This is what was done back in the '60's. Almost all limited edition vehicles since the '70's have been nothing but special paint jobs and badges. And Chevy could have easily done the same thing now. Instead they've made a vehicle that will go down as one of GM's most legendary vehicles.
Thank you to everyone at GM that made this car possible. You just didn't make a car that the true believers wanted, you've made a car that will inspire the next generation of car enthusiasts, builders and engineers.

I like the overall exterior design better. Wonder what the interior looks like? The LS7 is a good surprise.
Glad to see them do something else with the tail lights. I never liked the way the previous design looked like they were robbed and hacked from a Vette.
I agree....or even over $35K-40K for that matter.
I think this is still a very tough sell when compared with a good used C6 Z06. The only that that the Z06 Vette would not do better is with 2+2 seating. "Maybe" the new Z28 will have better brakes, but that advantage is nothing compared to the Z06's 3100lbs curb weight.
Everytime I look at either a C6 Z06 or the new Camaro Z28/ZL1....I always come back to modding what I have to make it handle better/go faster for much less money.
The most I've ever spent for a vehicle is a tie between my current truck('05 Nissan Frontier 4x4, 6M, 30K miles then) and my '96 V6 Camaro (Y87, 5M ordered new).....both cost around around $18.5K each. I bought my '96 Z28 used in '99 for $14.5K(just over 36K miles then).
Prices for new cars today make me cringe.

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
Ok, this is my take.
Camaro v6 = Mustang v6
Camaro SS = Mustang GT
Camaro SS/1LE = Boss 302
Camaro Z/28 = Boss 302 LS
Camaro ZL1 = GT500
This is not so much a performance comparison as a cost comparison.
That being said, since the Z/28 is primarily focused on the track, like the Boss, I think we'll see a price around $49K.
There's no way it's going to be more expensive than the ZL1.

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
Let me just add that I can get a 1SS/1LE for around $37K. The Z28 removes a lot of equipment (A/C, radio, etc) and adds an LS7 and ceramic brakes. If Chevy prices this puppy around $44K there will be a black one in my garage soon after it's released.

Re: Live Unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
I was told it can come off cleanly. Be good to see that first... that and there will be so many grill choices..... I dont think its going to be a big problem for folks that dont like that chrome accent.
I was a bit hesitant on the chrome from tease pictures, but in person, it looks pretty good......
Just saying.... you really need to see these in person before being sure.
C7 was nice in pictures, but in PERSON.... OMG. You just cant appreciate the lines of a car in a 2D image.

Its probably going to cost more than the ZL1.
