I don't fully understand it, that is correct. What I do know is that I'd like to stick with what I know works. Me? I'd like to see a straight up LS3 under the hood of the Camaro.

No problems with that!!!

AFM is pretty simple in concept, really. It turns off the spark, and fuel injectors via the computer, and it "disconnects" the push rods from the camshaft via special lifters. What's neat is that this all happens on the next stroke, instantly. Except for the notification on the DIC, and a potential boost in power, lots of people can't even tell when it's activating/deactivating.

Say your getting ready to drag race. It's not on while your sitting there. So the minute you hammer it you get all 8 cylinders, all at once with no lag-time...and it won't go on for the whole run. It requires certain conditions like low engine load, and steady highway speeds to be met before it will activate.

The only disadvantage to AFM I've heard of is it's lower-profile cam to accommodate the special lifters...but other than that personally, I think it's awesome!

I understood the concept of the fuel management system, but I didn't think the transfer would be very smooth or even that quick. But, I'm not sure how that would last long term, it's too new of technology to tell yet. Hopefully the SS doesn't have AFM on at least of of it's V8s, because I don't think I'm going to be lucky enough to snag a Z28.

Yes, I am stubborn. No need to point it out, haha.

If you want a TriailBlazer SS, I'd suggest getting one now. Today's announcement that Moraine will close in 2010 pretty much puts the final nail in the GMT360 coffin.

I had the same question a year or so ago. I asked a guy I worked with that owned a vehicle with fuel management. He said he didn't notice any hesitation or vibration at all when he stepped on it. Instant power...I wouldn't worry about it.

But, from what I understand, it doesn't work with manual transmissions. If that's true and you're still worried about it, that might be an alternative.

To elaborate:

The four sets of deact lifters are controlled separately and deactivated at BDC of the intake stroke (after the injector fires). So that when you ask the computer for all eight one of the deact pistons is already on the compression stroke and ready to fire.

In other words you are never more than half a revolution from full power and at 1,200 RPM half a rev is 1/40th of a second.
