Mail Slot on Camaro SS

Can you order the Camaro SS without the "mail slot." I hope so!

If not, I cant wait to put a Knight Rider Kitt "Red LED Light" on the mail slot. It would be a perfect fit. lol, I kid I kid.

If you can not I will be asking my dealer to swap the nose off a V6 in the lot.

absolutely.... but it will have to be a V6

and as far as swapping facsias... I'd venture to guess the lower grill opening is larger due to airflow requirements for the V8s. I'm sure someone will find out once deliveries begin next year.

The RS/SS from the promotion on the 22nd did not have the mail slot, but I assume everything is still up in the air right now.

x2. It's ugly and useless - unless they decided to put the "performance paper shredder" option on the SS.

I agree. A non-functional hood scoop borders on "ricey" to me. Get rid of it. But if it was functional and feeding an LS1 style lid, the rock on!

Yeah, I just figured since GM is trying to improve the practical use of the car, a Performance Paper Shredder option would be great. Imagine walking out to your mailbox to get your reams of junk mail. Instead of just walking all the way into the house and throwing it away, step on over to the car and shred it!

Seriously, functional or not, the mail slot needs to go away like yesterday. Functional cowl induction would be a MUCH better way to go.

After dropping the Firebird and the Trans Am along with it, if GM ever uses "ram air" on a Camaro and calls it "ram air", I will never buy a new GM vehicle again.

LOVED the slot on the concept, glad to see it made tit on he production SS.

But once I learned on the production it wasn't functional like on the concept......ummm......wasn't quite so sure about it.

Once I thought about it though, wouldn't be the first time V8 F-Bodies had "fake" scoops, or hood vents/inlets. For example: 78-79 Z28, 2nd Gen Formula, Shaker Hoods on most 2nd Gen T/A's, All 3rd Gen IROCS & Z28's, many 3rd Gen T/A's & Formulas......could have forgotten some as well.

What was one complaint of the 4th Gen Camaro? The only way to tell the difference between the V6 & V8 were subtle: Exhaust, 3 "Z28" badges, and on the early Z28's black rearview mirrors and roof/pillar.

I still like it...A LOT. I'd LOVE IT if it was functional, but hey, at least it's on there.

Add the 1st Gen SS to the fake scoop crowd. Early Third Gen Z28's had the last real hood induction, (opened with gas pedal) I'm not really sure the 4th Gen SS and WS6 counts with that tiny, long, windy path the air had to go through to get to the filter.

Also yes, that was one of the complaints, that the V6 and V8 looked too similar. Looks almost like they're doing it again too, but we'll see.

I like the mail slot. Sure I wish that it was functional. I wanted the same in late 1978 when we took delivery of our '79 Z28 (w/non funtional hood scoop). Overall, I think Team Camaro did a great job and I'm looking forward to the day when I take mine home!

I like the slot either way. I just hope even though it won't work it actually is a hole all the way through the plastic.
I want to put a pin wheel behind it!

The RS/SS has not been revealed in the U.S. I read one of the GM media stories that said the SS will have the slot. It also said the drag coefficient on the SS was slightly better than the LS/LT version as the SS has a different front fascia. I will try and find the story and post a link. The story also stated the slot is not functional. Personally I can live with or without it. It does sound like the slot will be one of the few features that the casual person will be able to distinguish between the models so I suppose it is fine with me.

Are you sure about that? I know that the last 2nd Gens (80-81) had the cowl induction hood with a microswitch on the gas pedal.

Most definitely NOT asking to be a smart-@ss, but which 3rd Gens?
