I've been watching EBay on these cars for awhile now. Very few of them are going for rediculous over MSRP prices. A few thousand over is somewhat common, but very few at the big markups of $7,000 and more. But overall most of them end up getting reposted with lower reserve prices the next week.
It will be interesting to see which way these prices go as the public gets more aware of the cars actually being made and then finds out about the availability issues. And what the heck...its cheap entertainment to keep us busy while we wait for our cars. I've heard there are other sites with many more Camaros advertised on them than on EBay.

Agreed.....

I think also there is (and I'm only speculating here) a certain amount of "peer" pressure being applied by dealers NOT marking up their cars upon dealers who are marking them up. But again, only my humble opinion. And it's based soley on what I'm seeing on Ebay.

I'm up here in Bingen Washington temporarily for work, and I spoke with a dealership in Hillsboro Oregon (near Portland) who told me they were only putting $1,295.00 markups on ALL their Camaro's.

I have to say that is a hell of a lot better than I have seen with some other dealers. It's still $1,295.00 that I refuse to pay though.

Of course, where I live (San Diego) I have found the dealership that I will order from. #1, they let me test drive a black 1LT they had on the lot, and #2, they told me they aren't marking up their Camaro's. Those are two reasons right there to give them my business.

The worst I've seen to date has been a 2SS (non-RS) for more than $47k.

I wonder if any of those dealers who are marking up Camaros are planning for bankruptcy if it happens. They say there will be quite a few dealers getting the axe if bankruptcy happens and even if it doesn't I'm sure GM will still try and get rid of some of the dealers in the network. I would be willing to wager that some of the dealers who are marking up the Camaro are just trying to pocket some quick easy money from a few suckers in anticipation that they won't exist in the near future.

Last week a local radio station said that GM had a teleconference with dealerships, and announced that around 2600 dealerships will close. Don't know if it has been formally announced as it supposedly came a disgruntled dealer.

Makes sense. I don't know how many places I've been where there are two or three dealers within 10-15 minutes of each other. Its good for us as buyers because you can go play to stealerships against each other to get the best price. Its also good for service since if one dealership provides poor service the customer has other options close by. However, it just can't be economically feasible to have that many dealerships.

Actually it was on the news and in the papers that GM themselves said over 2000 dealerships would be "forced" to close.

I cannot comprehend how folks are willing to spend thousands over MSRP (of the Camaro) when the Corvette is selling for $3,000 below the employee price (as low as $39K and change for a 1LT manual).

At the current rate of production, and considering the shape of GM, I wouldn't expect mark-ups to continue much longer.

Even MSRP in this economic climate is no great deal, IMHO.

Kudos to the (few) dealers accepting GMS pricing on the Camaro from the get go.

Well, that particular Ebay camaro I posted was being sold by none other than Rick Hendricks auto mall. He's the guy that bought Camaro VIN's #1 and #2.

Obviously, he's wealthy enough to get VIN's 1 and 2 out of GM. But for some reason, he's leaving potential Camaro buyers and long time enthusiasts out in the cold by charging that much for that car. Just absolutely rediculous.

I was at my local Chevy dealership yesterday. They had just received a Black V6. No mark up on it but when I asked about the V8 cars he said that they were marking up all V8's $4K-$8K depending on options!

With the year these dealers have had, and their possibly bleak future, I would think they would want to sell more cars at a reasonable price, not few cars at a premium price, and in doing so, help GM production and sales numbers out and start to rebuild customer loyalty.

Anyone would have to be a complete idiot to pay 1 cent over MSRP for any GM, Ford, or Chrysler product right now... If people didn't pay it they wouldn't try to charge it but you will always have the few idiots that will.
