Motor Trend: Camaro vs Mustang vs Challenger

GM needs to offer a Track Pack option for the Camaro's, both RS and SS! I think higher rate springs/shocks that would bring the car's height down just a touch, 3/4" - 1", and MUCH lower rear end gears, possibly 3.90:1. This would probably take care of much of the loss in lat G the Camaro's suffer to the Mustang, and utterly bitch slap both the Mustang and Challenger in terms of acceleration! Since GM decided to limit the SS top speed to 157 mph then why the hell not make an SS Track Pack? (I actually know it's because they don't want to F-up their fuel economy numbers right now!)
Speaking of Track Pack options, why don't the magazines be even more fair and compare a Mustang GT and Challenger R/T w/o track pack gears and then see how they stack up against the Camaro SS? Anybody have any performance numbers on those two cars?
One last thing, why don't we start calling Pontiac dealers and see if we can get G8 GXP gear sets (I know their only 3.70's but that's a start!)

Mustang is coming out with a 'Gotta have it.' With all the press about Camaro coming back, it makes business sense to let Camaro have its day/year. Then in 2011, Mustang is going bigger with a 5.0L, 4-valve, 400hp motor. Its great to have options again!!

I think that what everyone is missing in regards to steering issue is that Camaro is the only one with variable rate steering. It's designed to be slower off center. I haven't noticed any of the reviews talk about it.

I posted this link over on a Mopar board (I also own a hemi Charger) and they are all bitching about how come they didn't use the SRT Challenger instead of the R/T. Because to make a fair comparison it has to be based on price. It's not Chevy's fault that Dodge brought a knife to the mid $30K gunfight. The SRT cost $10k PLUS more than what you can get 426hp for in the Chevy.

yeah but that ss they have is probably around 35+. isnt there any srt8 around high 30? ive seen reviews where they compare vettes(75k) to porsches(100k)

I was surprised the Mustang did as well as it did. What some of my Ford friends are saying:
Well the Mustang is still way lighter and handles better. Throw a few bolt ons on the car and you'll be in the 12s for less than the price of a Camaro.

how much lighter? and what kind of bolt ons ? a supercharger?! haha. that would get their hp to where the camaro is. and i dont think it actually handles better than the camaro. from what i have read so far from all of these write ups. and as far as price, i have built a mustang on fords web page and it is only about 500 less than the camaro i have ordered. but it lacks in power so ill pay the extra 500 for the more hp and IRS.

I don't know them off the top of my head, but you should have no trouble finding reviews of Mustang GTs or Challenger R/Ts without the Track Pack option. They might not be '09 models, but that should make little to no difference on the performance numbers.
I know it has variable effort steering, but I'm pretty sure it's a fixed rate. You get more power assist at low vehicle speeds, and less assist at high speeds.

Base sticker for the 1SS manual: just $30,995. With the Boston Acoustics audio package, our cloth-seat tester climbed only to $31,490.
base price for the GT is $28,845, and with Premium package, Track Pack, security package, and the comfort group, our test car totaled $34,330.
