Note the trap speeds, and this....
That kind of lack of traction hurts both ET and (to a somewhat lesser extent) MPH.
Both are bloated pigs - the GT500 just simply overpowers its bloated pigdom more than the SS.
The Ford's big problem is traction. The rock-hard Goodyear Eagle F1 tires grip about as well as a pair of bowling *****, and you have to feather the gas otherwise the GT500 will be left standing in a cloud of tire smoke as the Camaro simply digs in and grunts away.

Well regardless of the price and power that was actually a good race for two cars in stock trim. In the real world runs like that are very common. The GT500 didn't run up to potential and the SS ran slightly better than most tests have shown. That happens day in and day out on tracks across the country and it's why the 2010 Mustang GT can still compete with the SS and why the LS1 cars are still relevant.
Video was one of the best yet for a real breakdown and just being fun to watch.
From the video the GT500 has quite a bit of rear wheel jounce while during the burouts. The areticle even eluded to that.
SS wins the 0-60 street fight. Yet for all the great comments about the Brembo brakes the SS takes more distance to stop from 60 mph but less than the GT500 at 100-0.

I don`t know..
every SS that runs at the local track is over 14 sec. in hands of good drivers and we are at sea level..
the best time known is 12.9x with headers / catback /programming
are this test cars from dealers? or chevy send them to tests ?

The IRS doesn't seem to hinder Camaro's launch yet that's what the drag racers supposedly despise.
Interesting that both a similar in weight, yet Camaro out-braked the Mustang from 100-0 (but not from 60-0).
EDIT: One more thing I noticed from MT's stats... the Camaro's f-r weight dist was listed as (58/42% - identical to Mustang's)... that can't be right as I thought it was almost perfect 50/50%)?

Yeah - while the GT500 may have won the fight. The SS is definitely the better buy.
For the 13K difference in Price - a SS owner could get a good Supercharger kit (installed)for the LS3, 21 inch Wheels(better traction), and good after market Springs & Shocks(handling) to allow the Camaro to slay the GT500 on the track or the road.

245/40ZR21 or 245/45ZR20 = same diameter
If you want more traction you need a wider tire.
edit: I realize I put the specs of the front tires but you get my point.

Lets not really get into this battle.
Honestly why buy a new camaro for 50k when you could pick up a LS1 Camaro for 6 to 8k and dump 42k in it to make it a whole world of faster?
Why do people buy the Camaro? Because its the car they like and want.
Why do people buy the Mustang? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Should i keep going?

guess I am biased since I own one but this shows the undeniable incredible value story in the new Camaro SS. This car has extraordinary, timeless looks and the performance and dollar value speak for itself. Rather pull up in an SS....
