NEWS: 2010 Chevy Camaro to offer two V6s at launch; Z28 to trump SS?
Although the Chevrolet Camaro has offered quite a few trim and package options over the years, a fairly consistent hierarchy – in some form or another — was present during the car’s 35 year production run – base six-cylinder, Z28 and SS. But a new report indicates that the 2010 Camaro will tear up [...]

Yes, the people who write AND post at leftlane aren't the cream of the crop. While I enjoy the updates, the objectivity of the articles is usually lost and when they makeconjecture, it is usually wrong. What is more assanine is the type of comments that are posted there.

Did anyone notice the article below this one that's quoting Bob Lutz on the availability of manual tranny's in the regular Pontiac GT's? Not just for the GXP! This might be my alternative to the Camaro.

If I was your average Joe that just happened to see that on the news stand and not someone who's been following the car for several years, I might be inclined to buy something else. GM might want to come on with the details fairly quickly.

A good while ago I was told of 2 V6 engines and one was over 300 HP [I was quoted 320 HP] This was before we before the CTS arrived with the DI engine. The 300+ V6 sounded like a wild dream.
I also was clued in that the 500+ Z/28 was going to be the top dog and the SS was going for over 400 HP this was before the Supercharged CTSV and the LS3 were introduced. 500 HP sounded like another wild story till the ZR-1 came around.
So while it sounded like a wild story it is now possible that it was all accurate info. I knew what I was told at the time was good info but wondered if it would hold up under changes and time. At this point it looks like a good possibility it will.
I was not the only one to hear this same info. I know several others who got the same thing. I did not post anything on any web sites till others started posting the same.
The one thing for sure is we are about a month and a half from knowing what is coming as I suspect the engines will be anounced in August.
The only thing that may not pan out is the 320 HP but the over 300 HP is a pretty good forgone conclution.
I could see the base six being offered till they can work out the Eco 4 for better milage. It may raise the base cars price a little but it is a cheap way to get some better milage with out losing performance.

I think there is a very high probability we will see "RS" packages available, especially after seeing the accessory spyshots we saw a few months ago. I believe it had "RS" decals on it did it not???
I still do not believe we will see two different V6's. I think we see the turbo 4 cyl before we see a 2nd V6. Who the hell wants less horsepower and inferior fuel economy???? Unless the 3.5L is signficantly cheaper to manufacture, I just don't see it happening.
As for the V8 lineup,..... I give up....... To me LS3 if the obvious answer for the base V8. The only doubt I have about the LS3 is that we still have not heard anything from GM about incorporating AFM/DOD technology with the LS3, a feature GM confirmed would be available on the Camaro. That leads me to think that the L76 is still on the table. Problem with the L76.....it does not make the 400+hp GM has promised. Since Gen V engines are supposedly a few more years from being operational.......I really dont know where that leaves us. Unless they offer both the L76 and the LS3 like on the G8.....but then they would still need to offer a 3rd V8 for the Top Dawg........grrrrrrrrrrrr.........September cant get here quick enough!!!!!!!!
