Arrow NEWS: 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 gets first test drive from Jay Leno

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Videos, Chevrolet, Celebrities

The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray might be hogging all the spotlight, but Chevy has another bit of excitement heading to dealers this fall: the new Z/28 Camaro. We first reported on the Z/28 at the 2013 New York International Auto Show in March, and while we still haven't gotten to take it for a spin, it's no surprise that it's already on our 2014 must-drive list.

Jay Leno, the lucky dog he is, managed to snag the Z/28 that was shown at New York for the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage, making the funnyman the first person outside of General Motors to drive the reborn performance car.

Jay gives the Z/28 a fairly thorough going-over, and discusses the new Camaro with GM's performance guru, Al Oppenheiser. There's a wealth of technical details in here and plenty of sweet engine noise from the 7.0-liter V8 to listen to. Scroll down for the full look.Continue reading 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 gets first test drive from Jay Leno

No burnout. It would be interesting to him try on 305 tires that are practically slicks. lol

That's pretty cool, all in all. I'm always glad that they are still coming out with cars like this to keep the hot rod spirit alive and defy the prius and EPA crowd. The Z/28 is a quite expensive, and that is a shame for any normal guy looking to own one - they are far more likely to be purchased by some older guy with a lot of money and be driven to car shows for a couple years and spend the rest of the time in the garage than actually be driven around like a street car. From my personal perspective (owning a Z06), an LS7 would be awesome in any car, but taking a pittance of weight out of a 4000# car by axing the AC then bragging that it is a tiny bit lighter than the bloated SS is a joke in these here modern times. The interior sucks still, and the add-on fender flairs look plain awful (reminds you this is still a Chevy). I like the front and rear ends of the car - very aggressive - and the brakes are awesome as long as they don't have the same problems as the ZR1 guys are having, but from the sides the car still looks way too tall or thick. I would have made the heat extractor on the hood at least 1.5X wider than they have it now. I also think the wheel spokes are ugly, but the proportions (19") are about right for how the car sits. So in conclusion, even though I do have the money and tend to waste it on cars and other go-fast toys, I would never buy one, but I think they are still pretty cool and glad they are being built. I look forward to seeing one on the road so I can destroy it
