NEWS: GM Reportedly Calls "Game On" For Supercharged 550HP Camaro Z/28
#91
That'd be a good start in the right direction. Personally, I would call the supercharged beast the ZL1. The ZR1 and ZL1 are a match made in heaven. Z06 and Z28 should be paired together as the lightweights.
But, I've already made my case for why it doesn't really matter. GM will do what they do, I'm just doing my best to justify it so nobody has a coronary. Maybe I'm just justifying for myself...I dunno, the voices....the voices in my head....LOL!

They sure will. Or maybe I should say, I sure will.
Ok, assume they went the other route with this z28 (the one doug suggested in post #53) and they stuck with the Ls3 and found a way to drop 100-150lbs of weight from the SS.
So how would a 2011, 3,7XXlb, 426hp z28 compete with this 3,7XX, 540hp GT500??
The z28 cannot compete with a car that weighs as much as a v6 camaro and that has the power of the CTSv assuming the GT500 drops the rumored 200lbs. I think the GT500 comes out on top either way on paper.
I personally don't think they'll have trouble selling whatever limited units they end up building.

I sincerely hope that it appeals to enough buyers to make it viable. I hope it is priced right and I hope people actually buy it (not just salivate over it from afar on boards like these).

GM already had the Z28 testing about done, it was posted on this site about a year ago, they got the Z28 to go 12.1-12.2 I believe and when they changed the pulley on the blower they got 11.8-11.9 or so if I'm not mistaken. If you don't want the car then don't buy it and don't whine about the name. GM is gonna build it(this week)and if it does what the test mules were putting down it will be an instant classic. The end of big thirsty motors is coming to a swift end, in 5 years you'll be looking back wishing you could order a 6.2 supercharged motor. Instead of whining about the car and asking for the impossible or better yet unmarketable, let's be happy there are still cars with big tourqey motors getting stuffed into Camaro's! 30 years from now this Camaro Z28 and the GT500 are gonna be like the Hemi Cuda and 454 Chevelle are prized for now.

Z/28 without a V8?

ok, I'm going to go off a little bit! First of all, the damn car numbers haven't ven been put out there, besides what looks like the at least 550 hp rating. When can you ever remember a factory production Camaro that can give you that? Especially well giving you all of the features that are in this car. Where are these 4100lb numders coming from? Let me try that, 3800, 3900, 4000, 6200, 9500, etc, whatever. As for the price, I'm sorry but one minute someone says 40k and then that same person is saying why would a 60k car be a good idea, WTF! I also really starting to wonder if some of you have even drive a 2010 SS. I have not only driven one (which I personally couldn't "test") and rode along with someone that stuck a hell of an on ramp at that car stayed planted like none other.
I don't agree with the people that say that Camaros are not good corners. I have a 98 Camaro with a 3800 V6 that will do just as good as a v8 mustang or Camaro on a road course and all I have done is suspension work.
I'd probably say more, but work calls me now.

We can only hope this will turn into you no longer jumping into every thread crying how this makes it not a Camaro or that makes it not a Z28. Your "hallowed" Z28 name has been tarnished far worse than being the fastest regular production Camaro ever produced. Let's wait and see what the Camaro team churns out, you were even impressed by the SS car.

Exactly....there's not going to be any miracles...they are using parts they already have on the shelf from the "V-Series" Caddies....I don't consider this "the dumbest waste of resources"....seems pretty efficient to me. I know its not the car you'd like...but Ford has proven this is a viable car....let them do the research then copy it.
