So how long before this car hits the streets of detroit?

This car? Detroit? Probally never. I suspect this particular car is made for hot weather testing since in a few months as Australia's summer cooks into full swing.

I believe we'll start seeing cold weather and traction control testing and tuning here in the US and/or Europe in January and February.

That's when you can probally expect to start seeing spy pics, as they should be testing in both hemispheres simulteniously.

 

Wouldn't ya think that picture of Mr. Welburn was taken at Milford or other NA test site and not in Australia. Just becuase of the proximity to where Mr. Lutz and Welburn spend much of their time working/living. Not that they couldn't or wouldn't travel to see it but just knowing how easy it would be for them to drive over to Milford.

As for that car on the streets of Detroit probably not anytime soon. Although it is a great place to test suspension setups!

 

When I was a pre-schooler we used to see GM driving vehicles through Churchill for cold weather testing. -45 temps.

 

I say that the fuel door could move simply because it is not practical for it to be there on a mass production vehicle. The C4 Vette had a top-mount gas cap on the rear deck lid and if I remember correctly, people hated it. It wasn't easy to fill without dragging the hose over the back of the car or spilling gas everywhere. There are other GM cars that could have it in a similar location but they don't make it that way and probably for good reasons.

Yes it looks good to people like us (I like it and could live with it) but for everyone, it is likely to draw more complaints than praise. I personally would be very surprised if it remains the same as the concept. VERY surprised.

Funny you say that, I just got done watching Transformers and in the last 30 seconds of the movie you can clearly see a B-pillar on Bumblebee

 

HA! I just finished watching too and saw it when they are laying on the car. blends in really well with tinted windows

**Bumblebee does not have a B-pillar -- that's simply the weatherstriping that's attached to the rear window -- without weatherstriping, you'd have water intrusion -- not to mention a lot of wind noise!

**the reason you can't see flares and spoilers and such is that the car has cammo on it! The rear has a bra -- so that prying eyes can't get a good look! We've been known to apply fiberglass and bondo to areas of the car to mislead -- and in fact one time, we had a badge that looked very CURIOUSLY like a Lexus emblem (on another GM product under development) -- until you looked closely and realized it wasn't an "L" at all!

**gas cap -- if it were still in the same place, one could not see it based on the cammo.

 

but it seems that the b-pillar on a prod. camaro will be very subtle like the weatherstripping on bumblebee. at least thats what im getting out of it

Not to press too hard, but if you can tell us, does that include the side body crease as well?
