Ford seems to have found the special ingredients it needed for the Mustang to spank the Chevrolet Camaro in sales. Thanks to a heap of power from a range of efficient new engines, the Blue Oval's pony car managed to top the Bow Tie's bruiser in sales for the first time since the Camaro sauntered back onto the market last year. Last month, Ford managed to move 10,225 Mustangs off of dealer lots and into the hands of the power-crazed public. Chevrolet, on the other hand, saw only 8,931 Camaros drive off into the sunset.
While the Mustang tended to rank higher in comparisons against the Camaro even before the new engines hit the scene for 2011, American buyers responded to the big power numbers and menacing style of the General Motors muscle car. Now that the Ford is cranking out slightly more grunt and marginally better fuel economy, Chevrolet may find itself playing catch up for the rest of the year. Not to worry, Bow Tie fans. It won't be long before GM's spicing up the Camaro lineup with the likes of a drop-top and the oft-rumored Z/28 may still be in the cards, too.Mustang sales top Camaro in May originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 02 Jun 2010 12:58:00 EST. Not a suprise to me. One would have to think that even for those potential Mustang buyers who didn't know the worst kept engine secret certainly knew once Ford announced the new engines the last few months and smartly held off their purchase. I have a feeling things will be a tight battle all summer.

I've seen 2010 Mustangs deeply discounted in these parts, meanwhile Camaros are still selling for MSRP or more at most dealerships. Thus I'm not at all surprised by this. A typical enthusiast not loyal to either brand and who has no clue the 5.0 is coming soon, might be tempted to buy 2010 Mustang for a song.

i figured this would happen once the 5.0 came out. but remember, ford has 6 choices when it comes to the mustang. v6 hard top,v6 drop top,gt, gt drop top,gt500 and gt500 drop top. the camaro is basically selling 2 cars. v6 coupe and ss coupe. when it all breaks down i still say chevy is on top. even though they were outsold.

working with my dad at Marketstreet over in Colleyville, TX and they had a 2011 5.0 mustang sitting parked right in front of the store. It's definitely an eye catcher

they look the same as the 2010 model. any new design car is an eye catcher. especially when you put it in an obnoxious color like baby blue ,yellow, red or orange.

I agree 100% with you there. In this day and age, getting that kind of financing, if eligible, and the fact that they're discounting them, and they're cheaper to start!? Thats why they're moving faster.
