Cliffs...

Doug Houlihan, GM's chief engineer for global rear-wheel-drive vehicles is quoted that a Camaro SS ran the Nürburgring in 8:20.

Other cars that have done it in the same time:
The E36-generation BMW M3 in 1999
The Porsche 911 GT3 (993 generation) in 1999
he Audi RS6 in 2001

For comparison, the '09 Corvette ZR1 did it in 7:26.

It's also quicker than:

The E46-generation M3
The E36 M Coupe
The Porsche Cayman S
The Aston Martin DB7 GT
The Audi RS4 (2000)
The Cadillac STS-V
Pretty much every Honda/Acura NSX ever

It's also almost as fast as a C5 Z06 (~2 seconds), and faster than a regular C5.

Where does that fall with the Camaro's main competition?

That's what I was looking to hear since I've driven C5's before. That's great news! Sounds like a great starting point for those that plan on modifying our cars.

The 350Z ran it in 8:26 (2003 though, don't know if its the same car now) Ford and Dodge don't test there to the best of my knowledge.

im sure a few more seconds could have been squeezed out of it too, they tend not to drive them as hard as some of those other times on the track, especially those best motoring guys from japan lol.

So much for this Camaro being "slow".

id like to see a 2002 SS on the ring compared, that would put things into perspective.

I am expecting that will be some killer suspension upgrades available in the aftermarket.
