NEWS: Proud Oshawa mayor and his Camaro SS ruffle some feathers

I agree with this mostly. If the car goes along with the office, then it should only be used for work, not as a personal vehicle. Also, if it goes with the office, when he is no longer in office, he should no longer have the car. It is one thing for a place to have a "company" car so to speak, quite another for the place to just give you a brand new car as part of your pay. If Anything let him pay for it through payments or something, just do not take tax dollars to get the mayor a brand new car.

Mr. Steele
Is only complaining because he's jealous he isn't driving an new Camaro. The mayor is supporting the major employer in the area by openly advertising/advocating their product. If I understand correctly the mayor has a car allowance with which to by a car, so why wouldn't he buy a local produced product. Like we say in Texas Mr. Steele would complain if they hung him with a new rope.

if i knew more id comment better, but form what this post has in it, the guy sounds almost right. the car does get horrible mileage. always will, its a performance model. i dont think the mayor should get one for free, make him pay for it. and if the mayor wasnt so "allowing" of GM to build it there, maybe it'd finally come home after wasting time being put together up there.
add in stuipd quip about the st therese plant and camaro not being american later.

21.1 mpg over 13,700 miles on a 426hp Camaro.....and I'm not known for 'cautious driving' --
Gas guzzler, huh???
The reason we're building them in Oshawa is that the men and women of Oshawa assembly won the right to build the new Camaro --- Oshawa is the highest quality plant in North America for several years running.
(very high percentage of the components -- including sheetmetal -- are built in the United States.)
I'm very pleased he's driving something built in his town.
What I want to know is why more U.S. Politicians aren't driving cars and trucks built in the United States................

Exactly my point. It's usually the ignorant import-lovers who deem American cars as "gas-guzzlers."

So would people be ok with the mayor driving a ZR1 if it was built in his town and funded by the tax payers money? or even a Z06 perhaps? heck even a base vette...
I'm all for the mayors supporting their industry in their towns, but I'd be happier if they paid for it themselves.
