The U.S. inflation calculator (http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/) puts $22,295.00 in 2002 at $27,697.15 in 2010 dollars. ($3247.85 less than a 2010 1SS)

I think the 2010 is a decent value, but it's still more expensive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator (http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl) puts $22,295.00 in 2002 as $26,854.01 in 2010 dollars. ($4090.99 less than a 2010 1SS)

Unfortunately, there isn't any particularly good way to compare prices of cars over time, so I used the generally-accepted standard of 4% per year.

Both of those calculators are using data from the Consumer Price Index, which isn't a very good measure when we're talking explicitly about cars. That's more useful when talking about the price inflation of day-to-day expenses like food and clothing.

I'm not going to argue as I'm not an economist and it's sounds like you know more about it than I, but aren't automobiles figured into the CPI? Do they represent a small enough part of the whole that while they are in the calculation they actually don't follow the rules of the calculation?

I'm just tired of people making cracks about the Camaro's weight without any relevance or perspective. Yes, we know its a heavy coupe. Get over it!
If you don't want an almost two-ton sports coupe, buy a Corvette and shut the hell up!

this is AWESOME news! it's only been about 1 calendar year since it went on sale too so the 1.5 model year thing really doesn't come into play yet. I hope it can maintain a good level until a 6th gen comes out :-)
