Arrow NEWS: SMS Supercars shows off first photos of its new 620 Camaro

Filed under: Aftermarket, Coupe, Performance, Chevrolet

2010 SMS 620 Camaro - Click above for high-res image

Steve Saleen is continuing his foray into building specialty cars other than Mustangs, and after launching the production of its 570 and 570X Challenger last year, his new company, SMS Supercars, has started the new year off right by releasing the first images of the upcoming 620 Camaro.

Using the SS model with the 6.2-liter V8 as a starting platform, the SMS 620 Camaro features much of the same design elements as the Challenger including the side induction hood, five-spoke wheels, and Alcantara and leather seats. Power is increased via an SMS supercharger system that boosts the LS3 V8 to 575 horsepower and 600 pound-feet torque. Like the Challenger, an "X" model is also available that includes additional engine modifications good for 715 hp and 700 lb-ft torque as well as upgraded suspension, brakes, differential, and wheels.

Like the SMS 460 Mustang, the 620 Camaro is currently only in illustrated form, but the production version should be ready sometime in the second quarter of 2010. You can find full details in the press release after the jump.

Saleen SMS620 Camaro: First Images

Apparently since no good Camaro should go un-tuned, here's the SMS 620, the latest from some guy named Steve Saleen. It's packing a built 6.2-liter V8 wearing an SMS292 supercharger and good for 575 hp and 600 ft-lb of torque.

ehh the saleen kit makes the mustang look good but it's an ugly car to start with. I guess when you take a good looking car to start with it makes it ugly.

The wheels look very SRT8 Challengerish.

I do like the grille. I'm starting to like of the look w/o the mailslot.

Well, at least they got rid of the blinged out gold bowtie on the front, and I agree that the hood sucks...

there is no originality to the models. Just looks like he copied the idea to all three cars. is that a good thing or bad?

A good thing if he is trying to build brand identity. I wouldn't mind seeing all three in person next to each other, it would nicely compare/contrast all three.

didn't Steve Saleen sell this company... or is this his new brand?

I agree it can be good for brand identity and the hood vents look like they belong on the Challenger but they look like autozone stick on port holes on the camaro.

He could have done a retro version of the hood with the two center dummy vents (I think RS?) for the camaro and it would have kept the look he wanted and been more appropriate.

I think this is the new company, but I'm not 100% sure.

As far as the looks, I think the Camaro is too busy looking, mainly due to the grill. It doesn't fit with the rest of the look imo.
