Not true Bob. I've looked into this because a low mileage C5 Z06 may be in my future at some point.
For example, when compared with the 4th gen F cars....
Koni Sports are cheaper for a C5. So are Bilstein HDs.
Swaybars are cheaper for the C5 when comparing offerings from the same manufacturer.
Depending on the manufacturer and compound, brake pads can be a bit cheaper or a bit more expensive for the C5.
Rotors can be significantly cheaper for a C5.
Brake line kits are a lot cheaper for the C5.

Then I figured out that you're Racer X on frrax.
Anyway, air intakes, exhausts, and anything transmission related is generally a bunch more expensive on a Corvette. Also, the larger wheel size means tires are going to cost more.

Thanks for the input thus far guys.
Actually, somewhat sheepishly, I hadn't thought about the trans. I haven't had the opportunity or reason to learn stick yet. While I have no qualms with it and want to learn, I'm thinking if it's going to be a daily driver (we're talking Chicago area and surrounding Suburbs) I might save myself some headache and go with manual. Would kind of knock-out the Z06 Thoughts?
5thgen, thanks for the ads. I suppose I should do some research outside of cars.com. Nice to see that '03 with 12k.
As my car is headed to the mechanic I went to Avis for a rental...somehow the only car they had left was a 2LT...so I am test driving that for the next five days. I'll have to arrange for some time with a Vette.
And yeah, I'm not so much concerned with brake pads as intake/exhaust/fuel system.

Very nice. Let us know what you think. Not a lot of personal experience with the V6 5th gen so far since everyone on the net is V8 crazy.

nothing even comes close to the look and feel of a new SS....sorry...owned a C5 for 4 years and traded it in a heartbeat for the SS>>>>My dog "snickers the magic chocolate lab" likes the fold down seat and the sunroof in my car also....

I sat in a 2SS on a showroom floor and it felt cluttered and compact with all of its gauges and features. The interior to the 2LT is identical I believe, but sitting in it on the road feels much better. My heart is confused by the fact that the 3.6 puts out almost similar to my modified 5.7. It's got some kick to it, but there's no escaping the sewing machine sound when you floor a V6. I don't think fuel consumption will have a significant impact over the weekend. It handles great overall.
The dual exhaust on the 6 is kind of pointless in my opinion, maybe to one-up the 6 cylinder Mustangs? I still can not get over the fact that you literally have no access to modifying the exhaust tips on these things. Has anyone seen a rear end on these that's been modified? I have dual (3.5" i think, truck size) angle-cut magnaflow tips on both sides of my LT1. It's kind of become my signature mod, and I'd like to continue with my next purchase. When I can upload a picture I will. They scream muscle and actually gel with the car's look quite well.

For the look, and the sound. I'm an exhaust guy, and if I'm slapping on a cat back system I want the car to look it, not with some weenie 2" chrome tips. If nothing else, it's uncommon, and I like to be tasteful but unique. Have yet to run into another F-Body or similar on the road sharing an exhaust setup thats similar to mine. Also, I get a much lower, throatier, sound out of these than most other setups I've heard.

Haha, not a fan?
Thanks for all the input guys. I've decided that I'm a Camaro lover at heart. The history and following are too great to ignore, at least for now. If I'm going to go for a Corvette it's going to be a top-dollar sports machine, so I will wait a few years and just give my future wife a coronary.
With that said...2SS coupe at the end of the summer or hold out and see if I like next years convertible?

I do hope they manage to buck the trend and keep the droptop weight fairly close to that of the already porky coupe. The structure on these cars is so damn stout that I'm hoping the convertible can have a nice compromise in chassis stiffness without resorting to adding super heavy bracing everywhere. The thought of a regular SS (or even V6!) droptop weighing over 4000 lbs gives me the creeps...

if your buying a vert, your typically not looking for amazing performance. especially in a 2+2 vert. every one knows they weigh more and dont handle as good as a coupe. if your goign for performance, just do the coupe or wait for the z28.
