I placed an order four weeks ago with a dealer that said that they still had spots open on their original allocation. I received a printout that the car has been ordered, I have not received a VIN number yet and the salesman is saying that they just have not got to it yet to put it into the system. Another friend in the business looked at the active orders in my area and could not find it. What has to take place in order for GM to except the order and issue a VIN Number and what are the steps and time line from there?

 

VIN isn't assigned until the vehicle is produced. Ask your dealer what your status code is.

 

A VIN is assigned at the end of the production process just before the vehicle is ready to ship. Your order could be in preliminary status before it is accepted by production control (status 3000). There are several steps after that before the car is produced.

In your case, your salesman is correct, your order is waiting to be picked up by production. So your order is not active in the system. You are in line at the ferris wheel waiting to get on the ride.

 

i placed an order 7 months ago and still dont have a VIN. dont feel bad. it takes time.

yeah right. its getting made some time this week and i should get it by the end of the month.

 

I got my VIN!!!! ending in 10154. it was made on the 14th. does anyone jknow how long i should expect before i receive the car now?
