Will we be happy with quarter mile ET's and G's on the skidpad? Power is just one factor in the equation. If every Camaro model is a little more expensive and a little quicker and faster than the equivalent Mustang, then it's good. But, please make sure there's a "Cobra killer." I hate how the 'Stangs always have the Terminator Cobras to brag about (nevermind they came out after the F-Body was discontinued).

I think with Onstar, whether you pay or not it is still an active GPS tracking device.
I believe the objections are that if there is a court case due to some kind of accident the GPS data can be pulled and used against you?

Am I close here or totally off base?

It's more than that. It's the fact that you can be tracked in the car ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, and by ANYONE who has the hardware. Do you really trust EVERYONE that much? I sure as hell don't.

Agreed, the Big Brother aspect is disturbing and I never really thought about the tracking hardware being used by non-GM people before.
Hmmm.

Yup, better not do any donuts in the soccer fields with your OnStar equipped vehicle.

And don't worry, most people make it easy for them anyway since they carry around a device that can be tracked with them all the time anyway, it's called a cell phone. And no I do not own one.

I especially like this exerpt out of the OnStar Terms and Conditions:
(i) protect the rights, property, or safety of you or others.

I have 2 more steps to add:

1. Remove DWM (Dead Weight Module) from vehicle.
2. Smash DWM with extreme prejudice (a la the printer scene in the movie "Office Space").

It's nice that you can take that POS box out without it affecting anything else that matters on the car.

I think it's pretty much a given that OnStar will be standard. It's standard even on Cobalt for 2009.

Besides OnStar I'd assume it will have a "Black Box" like 4th gens (and many other GM vehicles) as well.

.....and I think it's a given that IF I ever, ever-ever-ever-ever, buy another GM vehicle, the OnStar box would be the first thing removed and chucked into some great big field out in the middle of nowhere. Actually, on 2nd thought, I think I'd just bring my tools with me and take it out right there on the spot, and give it to the dealership as a present.

Save it and re-install for the next guy. Maybe he wants to be tracked.

:dunno:

LOL, the M*stang had nothing to do with the cars being discontinued. Way more to it than that, (GM itself, moronic contract deals) in fact they probably helped make the case for the Camaro to be built once again more than anything, besides the public demand for a new Gen after the cars left and the reaction to the concept.

ACTUALLY the last production date for the F-Body was August 27th 2002and the Cobra production started in MAY 2002. So yes there was competition, but GM tucked tail and ran after getting trampled by the Mustang Cobra (and its herd of horses under the hood ) and of course, the volume of sales the Mustang was providing for Ford
