Let's clarify some things...
First, we are really asking people to CALL IN to our Podcast voice mail hotline and give their thoughts on this, since we have a nice iPod to give away at the end of the month plus a cool die-cast Camaro Concept signed by Scott Settlemire and Chris and I (the last two are optional).
The basic premise is, you have to pick ONE to stay and ONE to go. Z28 or SS. This is not a question of "top dog" performance version, this a choice of one performance version that remains and that is it. Which one would it be? Will you pick Z28 stay and leave SS to be on all the other cars, or would will you pick SS to say and let Z28 die in 2002? Pick a side and then pick up the phone!

So, if you are going to post in this thread, please also visit the following thread:
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=494976
and then pick up the phone and leave us a message on our voice mail hotline. All of the details are here, and it only takes a minute or less. You verbalize your stand on it, we play it in a future podcast and give our thoughts and then we will pick a winner at the end of the month...and it could be you!

In that case, I still say Z28, because as the Martian said "any Chevrolet can be an SS (aint that the truth!), but ONLY A CAMARO CAN BE A Z28". Sorry, but Camaro is more special than an HHR, or a Cobalt, or even an Impala, and as such, it deserves a special name for the special version.

Z/28,
b/c it's more than what "SS" has come to mean nowdays, and it will look far more appealing with Z/28 badging, like the Vette. It deserves it's OWN earned monacre.
Somehow lumping the Camaro in with 4-doors and SUV's, doesn't seem right at all....

cars like the Cobalt SS is pretty sweet car, if I remember right, it was beating Mustang GTs in a track test (remember the thread from a few months ago but I'm too lazy to look for it now).
Wasn't "SS" used in a similar way back in the 60sas it is being used now??
Nova SS
Chevelle SS
Camaro SS
Malibu SS
Impala SS
Monte Carlo SS
El Camino SS

furthermore, the only cars I can find back then that didn't use "SS" was caprice and Corvette
Then od course there is the original "SS" a Corvette. Where does this discussion go if the new Uber Vette is called "SS"???

How many 4x4 "SS"s??
I'll bet there may have been a very rare few 4-doors built, I even remember an "SS" "optioned" Chevelle wagon, but how many "Sold"?
In the beginning, about what?, 1961?...Impala SS could ONLY be had with Hi-Po 348's or 409's...and that brought with them standard shift and usually bucket seats, better gearing, positraction, trim package etc..
Now, before you start looking up odd-ball 6 cyl, bench seat "SS"'s , that was not part of the "SS" package, but were specially optioned by their buyers as such, based on a "SS" package. GM wanted to sell cars, so, like B/K, they let you have it your way.
But if you ordered a straight up "SS", you took a HOT drivetrain!
While some "SS"s today perform pretty good, Cobalt SS 2-door, some like the Cobalt SS 4-door only have 173hp...
I think the Z/28 has always STOOD OUT more even than the SS, visually and performance, other than in just a straight line, and that's where Z/28 shined. It was light, powerful and agile right from the Jump!
