OK...part 2- what special edition Camaros would you like to see.....

I personally love the idea of a Panther edition Camaro... This could be similar to Mustangs "Pony" option... making the camaro a little more classic looking... Special nostalgia type wheels, maybe some chrome outlining the gills in the quarters, maybe a different hood that is more 60's looking? things like that... hell, maybe even give us Houndstooth inserts in the seats?
I mean if we are talking about a heritage edition car this is a perfect name and if we are wanting to create something "NEW" to the public this satisfies both...

Now that is the kind of thinking we need. Might do a retro look one year and a more modern look the next year in mono chrome. Sort of a Foose style custome look.
Since Chip is with Ford we could get Rad Rods by Troy to do a production custom Chevy could build.
I would have said Boyd but his rep is shot. Plus he really is not a very nice person.

Why all the talk about the Yenko and other edition stuff? This is no different than a factory car with dealer installed options/changes. Yenkos were no different than something you can build in your own garage today with aftermarket parts. These were not factory cars and should never be presented as such. In fact....the mustang "Shelby" editions are closer to a consistant factory built car than the Yenko's ever were. Many ford dealers are making their own versions of mustangs with shaker hoods, special badging etc. in the hopes of becoming a legend 25 years from now as the Yenko's got lucky enough to be. The Yenkos got there through domination at the drag strip due to unfair classifications and class restrictions as a result of NHRA lack of intelligience of what was really under the hood of those cars. It would not be right for GM to make a "Yenko" edition of a new camaro since they did not produce it in the first place. It would be more correct to start with a clean slate and make a "Foose" edition...(although I personally would rather have a stripped down edition with a Z06 powerplant and manual transmission to pay respects to the earlier Yenko models).
I'm just saying this....lets not get sidetracked here with this special edition crap if the factory did't produce it anyhow. I guess that sets the stage for an IROC and Z28 limited edition huh???? At least that makes sense instead of coming out with 3 or 4 "limited edition" cars a year anyhow that you will never be able to order or buy except on EBay.......
By the way...did I ever mention that I hope those "limited edition" mustangs rot in their storage facilities and are never worth what the owners paid over MSRP for them in the first place? Maybe they will go up in value as the other ones rust away since their numbers will never decline in that they are not being used up/crashed/stolen on the street anyhow.....

But they would have to enlarge the trunk to contain the bodies of Mustang owners!
But, we already have Scott Settlmire edition. Everyone just thinks SS means Super Sport but we know better.

When it comes to Camaro's that [i]most/[i] people will recognize...only two come to mind-
IROC-Z
SLP SS
Problem is that the car lends itself so much to the 1st gen, and there is not much I know about those besides Yenko, and Sunoco. I don't think those packages will resonate with people like the current Mustang and Charger onces.
You can call the V6 one the Pony Pounder

Ever since the 5th gen spy pics were out I considered it purely a mix between the first and third generation Camaro's, although there are hints of other gens...
I really like the F22 option code "Raptor" idea. Give it HUD, Navi, all the techy options bundled up together(whatever's new in '09), with a dark gray metallic SE color, with dark wheels, and MAYBE a lip kit to sleek it up a bit more. Available with any engine except the bottom-tier V6.
I think that would be a very good SE model, with actual relevance in multiple ways.

Wow... this is not a bad idea either. I like the sound of it...
Camaro "Raptor" - A different set of wheels, a nice wing, and lots of tech goodies and only avaible in dark colors. It would be perfect since one of the inspirations for the car was the F-22

So, I think it is quite possible to have a Foose version of the Camaro. Unique does classic Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers -- why not modern versions of the same cars? Makes sense to me.

I'm not so sure Foose is in that tight with Ford. All his stuff comes out of Unique/Quantum Techstar (http://www.qtww.com/companies/) and they do a lot of stuff with GM as well (like QP&P).

As for the Raptor. I think as I stated in my first poston this it would be a reflection of Peters concept of the Vette and Camaro reflecting the sharp edge stealth styling of the fighter. Might add some aerospace items or trim that would reflect it aircraft styling. I love the HUD addition and we could advertise the drive by wire throttle as fly by wire.
Harley Earl used aircarft styling on the Cadillac [P38] and Firebird 1 and 3 ][F104] then GM can do the same today by look forward whlie looking back with out copying anything they have done before.
The only problem I see is that while the Raptor may be a fast powerful surefooted creature but it was also a dinosaur. I could just see the critics from the magazines try to tie that to the new car being a dinosaur of the 60's revisited. I know car companies get funny with the origin of names like the Banshee. But it is time to put that in the past and use some cool names.
Heck Cedar Point Amusement park in Ohio has had a Roller Caster named Raptor for years and is considered one of the best rides in the world. The Camaro needs also considered one of the best rides in the world. GM just needs to skip the ugly Green of the ride and capture its spirit. The Front Seat is the best place to ride just as is the Camaro.
I still see a Camaro F22 package as viable since Chevy in the past was famous for the F41 package on may lines of cars.
If you want to keep with the roller coaster theme Kings Island has the Beast. That would make a cool name for a special car.
Are there any other rides with cool names that a car could also use?

Keep in mind that a Raptor is another name for a bird of prey like a hawk or eagle, not the cretacious killer Velociraptor. And I would be all for a package like that to make it sleek, quick and aggressive. Like you guys have brought up the design cues taken from the F22 raptor, why not use this?
I can see it now, "Camaro Z28 Raptor" or "Camaro Raptor" or something like that.

Frankly guys, 90+% of the suggestions I've read here for an SE Camaro, just plain suck the big one.
Before we start naming Camaros after dinosaurs, airplanes, comic book characters or former assistant brand managers - Chevy needs to hit a bullseye with it's regular production versions. Bullseye. Something Chevy hasn't really adequately done with a Camaro in a long time.
Z/28, SS, RS, LT, etc. If you can't build a successful Camaro line up with these established names, then all the BS SE cars in the world aren't going to help you.

No, but it gives people at GM who are reading this an idea for how to trim the car. Frankly, the days of an options list are gone. Not flaming here because I don't want this thread to deteriorate into a monkey s**t fight. I'm just going to say it may be your opinion that others ideas suck the big one, but they're other people's ideas, people who are permitted to have different mindsets than yourself. If Jimmy wants to post about a 'technologically sophisticated' camaro with HUD, LEDs all over the inside, a thumping sound system, ipod compatability, etc, he's allowed to post that, is he not? We aren't the people signing off at GM's corporate headquarters that the camaro will be this, this and this, packages are that and price will be such and such.
It's a given the camaro needs to be a hit. But geeze, by having a thread like this, it allows people such as Scott to see what exactly the average joe or the enthusiast wants. Not everyone who has posted here is an enthusiast and the thread is titled "What special edition do you want".
