The work they are putting into Magnaride III is beyond anything they have done before. I am thinking it would be more fair to say that there isn't one factor that is more important than another, because the right combination is comprised of many factors in concert with each other. Between Ford and Chevy, we will soon see who can orchestrate that better with teh chassis they have to work with.
I agree with Jacob, this are simply awesome times to be a performance car enthusiast. 10 years ago, we would have never guessed we would be where we are today.

The success of the Porsche chassis cannot be argued against. But I am thinking that it isn't an apples to apples comparison with most other vehicles in terms of weight distribution, simply because it is unique for having a rear-engine coupled with rear (or all) wheel drive.
I think a rear-engine Camaro would look hideous.

And yes, a rear engined Camaro would be hideous indeed!

Weight distribution is far from the end all, be all of handling. If that were the case then the most winning car in the history of racing wouldn't have something like a 39/61 weight distribution.
Until an actual head to head comparison is made you can keep trying to find objective ways for the ZL1 to be better.

Yes it was a concept that wasn't green lit and possibly wasn't going to be. The point is Ford was making Mustangs and selling them from 2003 til 2008 without any Camaro to have to deal with and still came out with the GT500 during that time even though there was no competition to have to worry about.
I'm sorry that you're not a fan of the ZL1 -- but I think you really should wait and drive one (or ride in one) prior to making a final decision.

I never said I wasn't a fan of the ZL1, I just thought it funny all the people in this thread saying how it was a better car than the GT500 with a lot of ridiculous comments that bordered on infantile. I'm actually needing to buy a car in the next month or so since I just can't trust the Cobalt SS to get me home anymore, I'm debating all 3 cars right now, Challenger RT, Mustang GT, and Camaro SS, I've always been a Camaro guy having ordered my 2002 stripper LS1 and my first car being a 1988 Camaro RS. USAA $750 rebate is a definite plus with the Camaro but we shall see. All 3 are great cars so it's a tough decision!

Supposedly they did, but the claim was made by someone watching from (if memory serves) outside the track who timed it with a stopwatch.
Ford has never said what the time was, and I'd guess that's most likely because they were still developing the Shelby, rather than tweaking the settings like they were with the ZL1.
It's clear in the photos the Shelbys being run had small, but significant, differences from both the production cars and the upcoming 2013. Most notably, winglets on the front fascia, and one foglight removed (which leads me to believe they might have been testing the effectiveness of different brake cooling setups).
