gionM....absolutely the RIGHT reply.....
Well said. "Who gives a damn??". I love my new SS and if they produce a Z-28 than the guy/gal who buys it will love his/hers....but the price will be reflective and it wont hurt the sex appeal or driving ability of my SS.

The OP mentioned a higher price. Lets maybe take this thread in that direction a bit since guionM punctuated the SS vs Z28 pretty well.

Likely the Z28 would be looking at a blower with the appropriate drivetrain upgrades. Would it be safe to take a loaded SS and add about $8-10K to the price? I just cannot see a market for a $50K Camaro no matter what is on the badge.

Makes sense, though please dont assume I was labeling it as which is better or higher up the chain than the other. I was merely going of what the history i knew of served. I, like you guionM was a previous proud owner of 2 mustangs ( i owned 2 v6 camaros growing up prior to the mustangs). I owned a 2003 DSG Cobra and a 2004 Roush Mustang Stage 1. Both were fun but before those I was a Camaro guy and have always been a lover of them. Not having them as a option in 03' and 04' was a pain.

My experiences with the cars lead me to just love the finely masterpeiced vehicle we all came to love and appreciate. Owning a Camaro 2SS is a dream for me and am working towards acquiring that and will continue to enjoy living among other proud enthusiasts who just love meeting up at gatherings to show off and be a part of something special... a community with the same love.....

Actually, I do.

But I have mixed feelings about this car getting a Z/28. On the one hand, it could give the Z/28 brand some much needed buzz, on the other hand, the planned 4100+ pound Z/28 is anathema to every fiber of my being.

to me the argument over which is top dog, is much the same as to who has the biggest house on the block, or who has the AMG mercedes versus just the standard mercedes. Its a status symbol to many many people. Oh he has to be making bank, he has ____Fill in the blank____ car and yadda yadda yadda...

Personally, i want a Z/28 for the following 2 reasons, and really for better or worse, these are the only 2 reasons :

1.) ANY Chevrolet can be a SS... only 1, can be a Z/28.
2.) I own 2 authentic Z/28's already, and 1 that i've kinda swapped everything to be basically a z/28 anyways..so i figure keep the trend alive. It's easier to say i have 4 z/28's than i have 2 z's a highly modded rs and an SS or a 1LT or whatever..

Weight, power, meh, dont really care, I know if it had that Z/28 badge its gonna be good enough to have it. I have faith that the folks who brought this car to market know what is required to have the z/28 badge. Hell anythings better than my favorite generations "z/28" packages of 230hp.. lolz.

and thats my .02 for what its worth.

Yes, the ol SS vs Z28 battle rages and will rage forever.
I also forsee a Caprice vs Impala fight coming soon as the G8 turns into Caprice while Impala turns into a fleet car.

But there are 4 ways of looking at it

1) Z28 is king because its the car born from racing. The Z28 was the RPO code that gave you the Trans Am spec 302ci 290hp V8 engine. The SS's RPO code is Z27.
While the 302's paper power output was lower then the SS's cars, the actuall performance of the 302 was more on par with the big block cars.
Z28 got a 350ci engine in 70 and the Z28 kept going on as Camaro's performance trim after SS turned into the LT, and then died off untill the 90's when the SS name badge started picking up speed.
2) the SS is king because it had the big blocks, the true muslce cars. The SS line up ran across the Chevy range being the top shelf for both engines and trim. SS badge died with all chevy's in the mid 70's, but started to show up again in he mid 80's with the Monte Carlo, which set off the SS movement to the SS 454 Silverado, the Impala SS, and then to the present line up of SS cars.
3) that the SS and Z28 are of equal stature, but have different meanings. The SS is the crusier, leather and comfort package, while the Z28 is the rough and race ready Camaro. The SS in the 911 Turbo, the Z28 the GT2
4) who cares? Mustangs rock

I am a fan of the 3rd idea but belive in the 1st. The Z28 doesnt have to be the GT500 of Camaros, but just a lighter, faster, more performance oriented Camaro. Taking the Camaro SS and turning it up to 11. I think that the Z28 does have a higher ranking then the SS, but only because the Z28 should be more about performance, not just more of everything.
Lighter, faster, stronger, better. Thats Z28.

The z-28 "may" get built. The SS is here Now. Go buy one/order one and support Chevy so we see the Z28 we all dream about. I know that there has been 16 yrs but I sold my 94 Z 28 (pristine condition) a couple of months ago to get my new SS. Not one single regret...
