Question before purchasing a 2011.
My first post here.
In the next two months, hopefully, I'll finally have the down payment I have been saving for. I was wondering how the process of ordering a Camaro goes. I already have my version and accessories picked out from the 'build your own' site, and I know it wont be a Camaro they just have lying around on a lot.
Has anyone ordered a custom Camaro through Chevy? I assume I have to go to a dealership and explain everything and what I want, but I'm not real sure how the process works.
Any help is appreciated. I'll probably be on the site a lot in the coming weeks to learn all I can.

There's two ways about buying a car at a dealership. Find one on the lot that you like, or sit down with a salesman and discuss what you want. By picking and choosing your options, you will need to wait for their order cycle, production of the vehicle, delivery of the vehicle, etc. I guess the average time that our fellow members have experienced is between 6-8 weeks if they hit the order cycle right.
When I bought mine, I lucked out. I found a 2010 2SS/RS in IOM with the orange accent interior. It was almost exactly how I wanted mine. The options I wanted were white racing stripes, body coloured engine cover and HUD on the 2011. $4500 off the price due to the GM employee pricing event was enough to win me over on HUD, and the engine cover and racing stripes can be done at any point in time. Check around, see what is on the lots and you might luck out like I did.
edit: By order cycle, I mean that because the car is in such demand, what I was told is most dealers are told that they can order X amount of vehicles/models for the following length of time. For example, there was a quote saying that the average time a Camaro spends sitting on the lot is around 15 minutes. Wood Wheaton, the dealership I went through, said that they were allocated up to 8 Camaros for that present order cycle and if they didn't have customer requests, the stock manager would make determinations as to what they would bring in to sell.
It's essentially supply and demand. Right now, the car is in demand so a limited supply means limited allocation

Good info, thank you.
If I find one on a lot that is close to what I want, what all can they change at the dealership? What Im wanting is a 2LT(yes V6, I suck) with the RS package, Inferno Orange with matching interior and black stripes.
So would I have to find one the right color and right interior, then they can add the RS and the stripes? Or can they actually change the color of the car or the interior?

Better off ordering it the way you want if you can't find it. Changing a car from Non-RS to RS would be prohibitively expensive and changing the interior would be the same. Stripes can be added easily enough.

That fine, it's pretty much been my plan the whole time. Thanks for helping me out.
One last question. On the build your own site, the MSRP is in the 32-33,000 range, is that about what the actual price will be? Or will it go up?

I just checked online, and a dealership here in Houston has a new 2011 exactly how I want it, but I dont quite have the paymen I want saved yet. :\ I want my payments to be around 400, but right now they might be around 460 or higher. Im so frustrated.
