Re: Real World MPG
The only modifications I would see as hurting fuel mileage would be forced induction. Most N/A setups like yours produce more horsepower through increased efficiency of the engine. My convertible is actually geared better for fuel mileage than my Z06 which has 122 more horsepower than my vert. The highest highway I can get currently with my vert is 30...my Z06 tops out at 33. I have no doubt when I do all my performance mods to the vert it will get better mileage than the Z. A tune helps a ton with mileage also.
I am curious to see what happens to mileage on the camaro when the ls3 is replaced by the DOHC 5.5L we will likely see in the C7. I will bet 30+ for the V8 at that point.

Re: Real World MPG
The industry standard is between 37-42% in the first two years. Camaros are not currently depreciating at that rate because of hype and a very strong used car market. When the 2012 is released with new interior and engine the V6s from 10-11 will depreciate very quickly much like the Corvettes did when the ls3 replaced the ls2 in 08. The 04 GTO is also less valuable because it is the only one with an ls1...we shall see but with current volume of 12000 sales per month there will be plenty of used models to choose from in two years when people want the new models.

Re: Real World MPG
With that said, I'm glad I got the v6 Manual. Since my car is my daily driver and I do drive it in the winter. I rode in the v8, and to be honest I did not notice that much of a difference. If you don't like the sound of the V6, but like the V8 for the sound then I urge you to take a listen to my Corsa Catback.
Ok you want real world driving numbers.
During the breakin I drove the car to Florida down I75 from Michigan. 27.5 at 75mph or so. You can get the advertised 29mpg if you set the cruise at 60.
I am able to coast on my 25mph - 35mph 4 mile one way commute to work (I live in college town, so the speed limits are low). I have been getting a combined 20 mpg since December.
EDIT: Last but not least, you won't be disappointed with the v6 manual. We learned from Martinrea that the v6 manual has a better suspension than the V6 auto, and has a lot of components in common with the V8 suspension. I am able to take 25mph curves at 60 without any tire squeel. Also be sure to get the RS package if going with a 1LT, as your wife will not hit limiter until 155mph. Otherwise it is 118.

Re: Real World MPG
FYI, I believe the 2012 interior is getting a few (effective, but overall minor) revisions. New steering wheel, revised main dash panel with leather (or fabric, perhaps, on lower models) insert, revised gauges (IIRC), and a few other things. Check out the ZL1 interior, but replace the alcantra/suede with regular leather, and you will be pretty much there. I think the changes look great, but the point is, don't be expecting a complete rework of the dash like the '97 Camaro got vs. the '96.
Also, I wouldn't hold my breath for a DOHC 5.5L (or likely any 5.5L) in the C7...

Re: Real World MPG
In fact I got talked to by some woman saying "Do you realize that there are children in this neighborhood?" for running 30mph in first gear with the corsa catback.
I also mention the catback and this issue because I personally know someone who was considering a v8, but was happy with how the v6 was with the exception of how the car sounded. He wound up getting the V6 and adding the Corsa Catback after riding in my car and hearing how it sounded both in and outside of the car.

Re: Real World MPG
Really, you think the Corsa Catback doesn't sound at all like a V8? Do you think it doesn't sound good at all? I've been complimented quite a bit on the V6 Corsa Catback. You can even hear it on podcast 293.

i didnt say it sounded bad, i just said it doesnt sound like a v8.
and im sure you could be happy with the sound, but thats not the same as" it sounds exactly like a v8"
theres a difference between liking it, and it sounding just like a v8.
