Regarding the Camaro Summit: Ummmm, what the heck?!
#91
I personally think its a joke that an American car with over 100,000 miles is used up, but a Japanese car is perfectly reliable transportation. I have seen plenty of Japanese trade-ins with blown radiators, clicking CV shafts, poor shifting ATs and such with less than 100k on the clock...
Regardless, from my own personal experience? My 2 Camaros show to me that GM quality in general, and Camaro quality specifically, is better than even some board members give it credit for. In the seven years I've had my Z28, I've replaced a PS pump and a water pump. With 64k on the clock, it drives like a brand new one. How do I know? My dad's '02 Formula IS brand new with 5k on the clock...other than a smoother ride from the revised '98+ springs and deCarbons (I have new Bilsteins on mine FWIW), there is no real or perceived degredation in quality whatsoever.
My RS is now 16 years old, with 112k on the clock. I bought it when the previous owner, who owned it for 7 years, traded it in to my dealership last May. In the 5k I've had it, I've replaced pretty much every wear item because, well, its 16 years old! Nothing has broken, nothing has left me stranded. Other than a few of the famous 3rd gen rattles (of which '91-'92 models have less than others), the car's reliability and performance is excellent. I replaced a valve cover gasket due to an oil leak, and may need a new rear main seal, or may not...can't tell if that's what's leaking or not. When the car is 16 years old, and was driven 3k miles in 4 years by the previous owner, am I complaining about a few dried up seals? Hell no....
The car performs like new now, gets 25 MPG doing 75 on the highway, all the power accessories work, the A/C works etc...I'd drive it to FL tomorrow. Is the tactile feel of the power window switch comparable to a Honda? Hell no. Do I care?? The same answer applies And with a brand new paint job and TT2s, it sure looks better than a '91 Honda Anything
