I don't care what they call the GT500 competitor but I'd like to see them hold on the the Z28 badge for a model with the Boss Mustang in its sights.

Heck, I didn't even know the IROC series is now defunct. Shows you how much I was paying attention to it...evidently like the rest of the world.
However...the ZL1 portion...there could be more truth to that than one might think...

Some of you have said something like, "there's no way GM would make a boneheaded move like that".
Well, with Ackerson in charge and the new, inexperienced woman he just appointed, anything is possible.

Furthermore, if this supercharged 5th gen Camaro is supposed to be designed with a slant toward Camaro's road racing heritage, then the only name than makes any sense, from a "historical precedence" standpoint, is Z28.

Re: Report: Chevrolet considering other historical names for supercharged Camaro
What I dont get is, why are there soooo many that complain bout this car being called a Z28, for reasons that it doesnt fit the theme of the original car . It comes no where near to fitting the theme of a ZL1 either and I havent seen hardly read a complaint about about this car being a ZL1 . In fact , its further away from fitting a theme a ZL1 than a Z28 . By the historical buff standards, if a ZL1 should exist, should it not be a NO option base LS in every regards, including the dog dish heritege wheels with a big NA LS7 . The ZL1 was a drag racer, not a handling car at all. I mean really, how does a loaded to the gills, supercharged , leather lined 4000lb car with 20" wheels make anybody think ZL1 ?
Just sayin , lol . I care less what they call it than most seem to(though I do prefer Z28) , just make sure it kicks the crap out the GT500 . "IF" Chevy has a proper competitor to the Boss Mustangs in the pipeline, then I might see all the logic in saving the Z28 title for that car. If not though, why in theee hell would you not use maybe theee most talked about monkier Camaro wise in the last 4 or so years for your new crown jewel?

Re: Report: Chevrolet considering other historical names for supercharged Camaro
From a nomenclature standpoint, it makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever to call the new S/C-ed Camaro a ZL1, seeing as how jg pointed out that ZL1 was never an acutal production model. I, along with many of you would love nothing better than to not only see this car through, but to see it called Z/28. However, the possibility of SLP performance parts that'd come standard on this new machine does curiously intrigue me, CAI, exhaust, hood, rims. IMHO it seems to be one of the many reasons we all keep commenting on stories like this.

Re: Report: Chevrolet considering other historical names for supercharged Camaro
bolagna.
i cant see them using ZL1 after SLP is using it now for their new super-tuner-car-sex-on-wheels... O.O'
Z28 is kind of an obvious choice, but maybe they'll surprise us and use something completely different.
furthermore, i dont see a name badge grouping change anytime soon either, moving SS up to top spot and Z28 to base 1ss/2ss cars like now.. NOPE. that'd be dumb.
finally, I like my own idea of 'Super Sport Charged', similar to SS Supercharged
ima wait and see guy when it comes to automobiles though. so ima wait and see.

Re: Report: Chevrolet considering other historical names for supercharged Camaro
ZL1 is what i think should be on this car. i noticed on SLP's web site they call it a ZL. not a ZL1. might this mean that they have the trademark for the ZL plate and not ZL1? plus, to get any variety of ZL1 would just require a - or / to totally change the trademark rights. they could do ZL-1 or ZL/1. like i have said before, the Z28 nameplate, should be saved for a BOSS302 competator. not the gt500 competator. but then again, i dont really care. im just going by the way history has based them back in the 60's.
