The Rise, The Fall, The REBIRTH!
This may have been posted somewhere already and if so just delete this post. But if not, I found this on ESPN....nice little story about the History of the Camaro.

I loved this part...
"That means that even if you brake-torqued a brand-new 1981 Camaro Z28 and floored it from a traffic light, your grandma could whip your *** in a stock 2006 Honda Civic LX sedan with an automatic transmission"

Yeah, I don't get it! Why go from a 350+ HP monster in the 60's to less then 150 HP for the majority of 25 years. I don't know since I was born in 74 but maybe cost effectiveness, emissions, etc... played a big role. It just seemed like they kept shafting the Camaro throughout the years and just tried making it pretty instead. I have owned 3 Camaros in my time and wait impatiently to own my 4th in the next couple years.
79 First Car
96 V6
94 Z28 Current
I was devistated when they discontinued the Camaro a few years ago and when I looked around the market I didn't see ANYTHING I wanted that would even come close to comparing to the Camaro (in my opinion). I have always liked the Vette too but that just didn't cut it cost wise. I have been following any bit of info on a new camaro since they discontinued it and was thrilled when the new Concept came out. I will be buying one when they put the BIG engine in it and it will be ordered. I plan on going all out on this new car up to about $40k.
Can't wait!

The Federal Government emasculated Camaro during the period in question with emissions mandates, fuel economy mandates, and safety mandates that bloated the car's weight.
Corvette, and every other car out there got the same treatment.
Folks can choose to argue if the government doing that was a good thing, but you certainly can't pin the blame for it on GM.

Sometimes our perspectives are changed when new information we were not aware of arrives.
Now you know.

Very good read, and good find. Thanks for posting that. I did notice a couple little errors in the article, but I did like how he described the concept on the last page. . . "retro-mod original." I think that is a great term to use, as it covers all the bases. I have not responed to any of the hundreds of threads here that debated whether the camaro was retro or not, but I think retro-mod original is what I will call it from now on. The term makes everyone happy. . . little bit retro, little bit modern, very much all original!

Cool article but did anybody see the end?

In fact '79 was the highest ever selling year for the Camaro with roughly 282,571 produced and sold.
