Would anyone here buy a GMT355 based, Bel Air (convertible or hardtop) or Nomad for $18-$20K?
I could see a HUGE aftermarket for performance parts.

Insurance would be a huge factor in that decision(nomad>camaro), so don't get too worked up by that statement
What can I say, I love wagons

It seems as though the 5 cyl is big turn off to some people. How about instead of 355 they use the 360 with the 4.2? Also guys lets not forget a 3700 I5 is on the way. Joe any guesses on power output?

Imagine buying a "blank canvas", sub-$20K Nomad....and choosing from a host of GMPD accessories, including wheels and lowering springs. With the I5 motor, I'd suggest GMPD comes up with a good sounding exhaust...if possible.

that's a good point. alot of people my age (26) are really into the Scion because of the ability to customize it before you even pick it up. it would be nice to see GM adopt something similar to this through GMPD.

I dont know what you guys are talking about. The last thing GM needs is something else built on a truck chassis.
What GM needs is a 1st class Chrysler 300 competitor and the "Bel-Air" nameplate inconjuction with a nicely-styled v6 and V8 RWD sedan with a 'small' does 1957 Heritage styling would be just what the doctor ordered.

It's funny that back then, the car was being p*ssed on constantly for it's tall and thin look, but now we can't drive a mile without seeing a tall and thin looking Chrysler 300.
If GM had been able to create that car, and start it at $20,000, Monte Carlo wouldn't last very long.
As for how close it came to production, it was the only car I ever saw that evolved in design between the time the press photos were taken & the time it debuted at the auto show. I also saw an glimpse of the evolution of the Belair's design a year or so ago. I don't know how old the photo was, but it was undoubtedly a Belair, and it had the Chevrolet "chrome bar" on it. In a way, it looked a bit like last year's Malibu up front.
I suspect it either got the axe fairly late in the program, or it's design is being incorperated into another model.
