Saw the Concept in person in Houston 2nite
Hey all,
The 5th Gen Concept is on display here at the Auto Show in Houston. Saw it tonight.
Looks really good in person. Of course, there is no way those giant rear wheels make it to production, but they looked great on the car.
The car looks "beefy" in person. Not as chunky as the new Chrysler stuff, like the Magnum, but similar in that the doors are tall and the side windows and windshield are relatively short. Just a bit of that "chopped" look, in person. The new GT500 Shelby was also on display nearby. Ford and Chevy were next to each other, so it was easy to kind of reference the 2 cars against each other. The 5th Gen at the show was red and so was the GT500, so it was cool to be able to compare.
Close contest, really. The GT500 looks better than I expected in person, but I preferred the Camaro. They were both looking really good. If anything, the Camaro looks more aggressive of the two. The GT500 looks a little more refined and "adult", while the Camaro looks more retro and "teenager", at least to me.
The Chevy spokes-chick said that GM has already had more than a million hits on their "build the new Camaro" website in the 3 weeks since they introduced the car in Detroit. If that keeps up, odds are high it will happen. She was also saying that Houston and Dallas/Ft Worth were always huge Camaro markets and they were hoping for a big response from showings in those areas. On the upside, the Camaro had the biggest crowd at the show.
If they build the car close to what I saw, keep the weight down at a reasonable level and give it a 400HP+ LSx, I will own one.
Period.
P.S. Chevrolet.........please, please put a rearend on this thing that has some beef in it.......please?

You guys just have to see this car.

Most telling to me was being able to scope out the 5th Gen and the GT500, both in red. Here's Ford's top-of-the-line, excluding the GT, $45,000 car and over there is the Camaro concept.
Even if it was tamed down a bit from the show car, the Camaro looks impressive in the comparison.

It looks wide , dont get me wrong . But , I didnt think it looked as wide as it really is . It didnt look outa proportion wide in the least . It did look to me longer than it really is . The general shape , with all the lines and different planes and they way it all ties together is quite stunning in person . Many of the character lines , and the way some panels are curved you just cant convey well with a photo .

They must do something about that terrible grill and weird headlights. They should extend that lower GFX some too, at least so it's even with the bumper.

It's always great to read people's thoughts on the concept... err, those who have actually seen it in the metal, that is. The fact that you can articulate your thoughts so well makes for extra special reading.

I agree with it looking a bit wide in the rear, but I want it to maintain coverage for some really wide rubber so, maybe if it tapered just past the rear wheels to a slightly narrower rear facia?? And I wouldn't want a narrower rear axle if if kills skidpad performance. Red one looks a little narrower than the silver one too.
I still Like it!
