Saying goodbye to a good friend...
Today has been a bit emotional for me. I am parting ways with a good friend. She has been there for me for years. She has been there through the good times and the bad. She has seen me at my worst and my best. She was a lot of firsts for me. She has never said no, she never speaks up against me unless I really screw up and she was always giving it her all. She loved going around topless, but only when it was nice out, and she was a stunner; she turned heads everywhere she went. It really hurt to have to say goodbye...
I'm talking of course about my 1997 V6 Polo Green Camaro. But I know that she is going to a good home. A bit of back story, my brother recently returned from living in Australia with his fiancee. Before they went downunder in the first place, they sold everything including his Ford Escape. When they returned, a friend said they would 'gift' a Ford Explorer to them. They would need to put some money into it to get it running again but they could have it until they got on their feet again. Alternator, Battery, Starter, Brakes, you name it, the whole gamut was wrong with that Ford product. The thing died a few weeks back while Amanda was driving back from the mill and they've been without; finances did not allow for a new purchase and it's just not worth it to sink anymore money into that piece of scrap metal. My baby, my green Camaro, is going to him. Jon and Amanda were flabbergasted. They couldn't believe it. We grew up with the car. My dad bought it new when I was 12, with the intent for me to own it down the road. V6 because he didn't want me wrapping it around a telephone pole. When I turned 19, it was signed over to me. Now that I'm 25, going on 26, it's going to my 23 year old brother. Three owners now, same family. It's the longest my parents say the family has ever had a vehicle, to be totally honest.
As for me... Well, let's just say I found a deal I could not refuse. I can't sleep right now because in all of 9 and a half hours, I'll be at the bank getting a certified cheque... For the down payment on a 2010 Camaro 2SS, RS, IOM with IO Interior, sunroof, etc. It was optioned almost exactly how I wanted it. It's not a 2011, no HUD and no white stripes (yet...) but I couldn't resist over $4000 off the car because of the employee discount pricing going on right now in Canada.
Scott, if you're reading this, thank you for all you've done. Thank you to you and the team. Because of your efforts, I'm getting my dream car and my brother and his fiancee are in a position where they have the means to do what they need to do.
The thing I love about the Camaro community is the sense of camaraderie. We all know that Camaro was french slang for Comrade or Friend, and this is a perfect example of that happening.
For anyone in Northern BC, head over to Wood Wheaton Chevrolet and see Greg. He was more than happy to deal with me and my family for our 4th Chevrolet in 14 years, and extended the most professionalism (and patience... Finally sold me a Camaro after 2 years of me bugging him) with me as I've ever experienced at a dealership.
Will see about pics in the morning, once the ink has dried.

Congratulations on the new car, Rob! I think it's great that you're helping your brother AND keeping a car that has been in your family for 13 years in the family. And you're actually expanding your extended Camaro family!

Rob -- what a wonderful story............and stories like this is what makes "Camaro People" so special.
I'm sure you've read many times the words of Pete Estes when we first introduced the car ".........means friend, comrade, or pal..........." "......as a personal car should be to it's owner......" ......and your story illustrates how hard it is to say 'goodbye' to a cherished "comrade" --
Meanwhile -- on behalf of everyone at GM - THANK YOU for once again choosing Camaro -- and we sincerely hope that this new Camaro SS will be the best car you've ever owned.

Posting from my iPhone. Hopefully the link works. Currently in the Okanogan for a wedding, wishing my baby was with me. Will get more pics when I get back to Prince George

There's one I pulled off of my phone. Once I get back to PG, I'll get some more pics up, and see about getting some others of the girls together. Here's one from a couple years back.
I promise this will never happen to my new one...
She was even my prom date.

Oh, I already do. Drove through a Timmies Drive-thru and the girls behind the counter and EVERYONE else in the restaurant was eyeing up the car, and then started shooting the breeze at the window about it. Then a couple cops in the parking lot told me to keep it under 200...
Took it out as the light was fading tonight and noticed something... I was under the impression with the orange accent package that the gauge surround lights would be red, like the door lights. Mine are actually blue... Here's a pic showing it... Anyone else experience this or was I incorrect in my presumption?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining in any way. Maybe it's a one-off or adds a bit of uniqueness to her...

Alright, thanks for clarifying, Scott! I appreciate it. I guess that's another perk to being up north; we get the best of both worlds for accent lighting
I have to admit, I really do like the ambient lighting in the car. I'm not the kind of person to want to ruin a car by putting lights and stickers and 747 wings onto my vehicles so that really says something. The strip of red just really hit the right button for me driving around at midnight. And I will never stop grinning, seeing everyone I drive by eyeing up the car. I love it!
