Short throw shifter

Is this option factory installed or dealer installed?

If its dealer installed I assume us gearheads can install it ourselves or does it demand some type of technical wizardry that needs to be done at the dealer?

Dealer installed, but I am sure the car owner can do it. It does look a bit more complicated than previous shifter replacements.

I sure hope they don't screw anything up when they are installing it...you know they will be just as nervous....I don't think I could stand to watch

yeeeaaahhhhhh...um, ill leave it to them. looks like the whole center console will have to come off or even drop the tranny out to get it in.

Oh come on, don't make it harder than it might be.

IIRC, the 4th gens had to remove the top of the center console, too...a couple of bolts and it was out. Not a problem.

I was under the impression that they were designing this Camaro with the aftermarket more in mind, hence the reason they are releasing their own parts.

But, we shall see!

Why would you not let the dealer do it that way if they screw up a trim piece they have to pay for it. Where as if you do it and mess up anything you will have to fork out the cash + replacement parts for interior will probably not be available right away they usually are not.

True, but on the other hand, why pay the dealer an hour of fees to do something that might be able to be done in 10 minutes with common hand tools?

Again, we will see!

If you order the shifter when you order the vehicle there is no added fee.

Are you sure? Where did you hear this?

Seems to me that some dealers might be willing to do that, but I doubt that all dealers have that policy.

im pretty sure that there is no fee involved if you ordered the part with the car. i can see some dealers maybe trying to get some money from you but it should be part of the cost. especially if you are paying 380 for the shifter and can buy it on ebay or from summit for 250(example).

and i know how easy the 4th gens were, i put one in mine but that shifter just looks like a good 3 hour project.

I believe if GM performance parts aren't installed by the dealer they will mess up your warranty like any part you would buy from Summit or Jegs. There is no way for them to be sure you didn't screw something up when installing it.
