Sick of DOOM and GLOOM!!!

Every day there's a slew of new stories about how we're all doomed from high prices, global warming and any number of other things. Yeah, things are tight - I look at my own budget and I'm paying more for food and gas than I *ever* thought I'd pay - and yeah, I don't have extra money and like everyone else, I wish I did. And you know what? I AM SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT IT!!!

Since when did people stop believing in what is possible when people put their minds to something? Every news story says GM is a goner - oh yeah? What about the THOUSANDS of people who work there? I'll bet they don't think so. Gas prices are high - so? What makes everyone so sure that new technologies won't come along to change things? Food prices are high - and what? PEOPLE ARE FIGURING THIS STUFF OUT!!!! We went to to moon, but I suppose it's trendy to assume that it was a scam and we really didn't. Man built the pyramids, man built the Great Wall of China - man does a lot of things because he can and we've somehow gotten to where man can do nothing and is suddenly helpless.

And why is this on the Camaro board? Well, I saw a video blog on Car and Driver's website where they basically pronounce the Camaro dead because it will have a v8 engine. There's no mention of the v6, there's just the trite idea that "people just won't want a Camaro anymore". I'm sorry but when did people stop wanting to have fun? Please tell me because I didn't get the memo.

There are GREAT people working on the Camaro who are SMART and KNOW what the current market is. They know what it takes to succeed and they will make it happen. Everyone on this board should be grateful that there are people in this industry who still believe in cars being fun. Everyone on this board should be glad that our passion is still understood by people building these cars. And frankly, I think we all need some perspective about our coming car.

Not ONE disciple had bad things to say about the car - not a single one. Those that were/are planning on buying a v8 have praised the v6 as perhaps the best car of the line - that's VERY high praise for a car enthusiast and yet folks on this board are focused on minor issues like "I don't like the headlights" or "I want the gas cap on the driver's side of the car"......geez, let's get a grip ok?

Let's make this one thread about the beauty of getting a new Camaro. Let's make this one thread a celebration of our previous cars and the new one to come. Let's let ourselves enjoy the cars we love, rather than seeing doom and gloom around every corner.

THANK YOU! That's what I've been thinking and saying for a while now. These are tough times right now, but all of this has happened before and it'll happen again. Life goes on...and you wont see me driving a Versa any time soon.

Hopefully when the news on the 22nd comes out it'll chase away all the "sky is falling" threads and give us some Camaro news to talk about (wow...what a concept).

Fun is not in the vocabulary of corporate beancounters. It doesn't matter how great people are working on a project if the beancounters decide that there is no more business case for the product, it will be cancelled.

No, I'm not talking about the Camaro project here, but just in general.

I have no doubt that the new Camaro will be a great product and wish the best success to it. I will own one a few years down the road. Hopefully there are enough others who do the same and keep buying them so that we will see Camaros for years and years to come.

Amen brother !!

We are waiting for an amazing car, one that will come and will meet any and every expectation there is about american sporty coupes.

I currently own a third gen wich i love to death, and i can't wait to drive this new beast... maybe i won't be buying it the first day, and maybe i won't buy it at all... but i really wish to have one... and until then i'm all ears to the good news !

People that focus on gas prices are the pessimist ones... so what if gas is expensive, it's always been (compared to the actual cost of life) and it won't drop anytime soon. We can hope for a better energy source, wich humans WILL invent when there is no other profitable choice. Until then we're still burning fossil fuel and will always be.

Keep the faith, and for all of you that won't be buying the camaro because of stupid headlights or backups lights, stay right where you are, it leaves more Camaros for the rest of us, go buy a mustang and leave us alone !

I don't believe there will be a problem with Camaro being around a while, I just worry about people like me who won't care how much gas it, or that my car gets 22 MPG because it has a big supercharger on it. I just hope GM sees there is a market for a Z28 with monster power and that there are people who are really looking forward to this kind of Camaro.

JMHO.

Okay, doom and gloomers. You know who you are. Jump in and try and squash
any signs of optimism. The half glass empty people will always be that way, don't let
it get to you. Thank you for such and refreshing post.!!!

I agree... and I'm relieved to read you are in such high spirits.

If the thread is gonna be about driving enjoyment, I would not expect any mention of Atoyot in the thread.

Like you I can't hardly wait until the new Camaro roams the streets and rules the dragstrip, however I can see where the "doom and gloom" arises from.
The 5th Gen. has been way over exposed, at least to our community.

Now as far as minor issues go? People are focused on these issues...because they ARE not so minor issues. This car has been floating around for a good 2 solid years, the Camaro void will touch just on the 7 year mark. There's def. no reason not for people to "doom and gloom" about these issues. Why? Prime example the Camaro Concept rear bumper was gorgeous, aggressive and bold. The production bumper has "most" of this character, but looks bloated and odd in many proportions.

Look where the reverse lights ended up, in the middle of the bumper. They look horrible, look like an after thought and cheap plain and simple. Not to mention ruin the rear bumper look, thank gosh theres tint. Little details DUE matter, the headlights should be perfect, they're the eyes of the car. The Grill needs to be perfect its the crown signature of that vehicle. Along with other things like the SS detail, badging etc...

Everyone has been so exposed to this Car on this forum and prob. every single other GM forum that it needs to be as close to perfect as possible.
I say this because the Minor issues are important to capturing potential customers. The majority of People buy cars based on the Look then everything else. If GM can nail the concept, like we've been told they have, this car will not be on the lots for long.

There's a good reason why V8 sales are sometimes buoyant during a fuel crisis... people are tired of the doom and gloom and want to break free and enjoy life for a change! No better way to do it than with a V8. A Camaro V8.

From the automotive news forum concerning G.M.'s downsizing from someone in the know:

The buyout negotiations for white-collar workers have begun, and word is that a lot of North American design activity is coming to a halt. Now, given that 'bout the only vehicles that still have NA homerooms are trucks, Cadillac, and Vette, let the rumors begin.
It does stop and make you think. Hopefully the Camaro is safe.

*G.M. Announces no more health care benefits to retired workers over 65 and no more dividends on common stock.*

AMEN. And I'm glad Shellhead started this thread. I think some in our society lose perspective now and then. Think about other times the Camaro and Firebird have blossomed in the marketplace! Late 60's and early 70's, during the height of our Vietnam War... the late 70's during the second OPEC snarl... even the late 80's and early 90's during all that economic turmoil. We've been thru worse
