More of them will be shipped by rail rather than truck.

The shipping companies are privately owned. They have no connection to the automakers. Therefore, they are able to buy whatever equipment they choose.

The reason it's not a GM truck hauling those beauties? GM hasn't built a Class 8 truck in many years. I don't remember the last year they were produced but I think it was late '80s. Ford stopped building them in the '90s I believe. Ford sold their HD truck business and it is now owned by Daimler, but the brand name is Sterling. I believe that this month is the last month Sterlings will be produced. So GM and Ford are both long gone from the big truck business. And no offense to anyone, but neither ever made a very good product in that category. Obviously, their focus was on cars and light trucks, where it should be. As in many industries, consolidation has been taking place for a long time. The only nameplates left are Volvo, Mack, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner and International. I know, probably way more information than you wanted on a Camaro site!

And just to add more useless information to my post, Mack is owned by Volvo, Kenworth and Peterbilt are owned by Paccar, Freightliner is owned by Daimler and International is still independent, for now. So as far as consolidation is concerned, there are really only four players left.
