Ofiically licensed often means they have paid the right to use the name, at least for the most part. It doesn't always mean that is is above average quality for the price.

I never thought the proportions were out of scale too bad...what parts do you think are?

and on the other end of the scale I don't think anybody expects a Welly or any other cheap die-cast to have the level of detail that something from the Danbury Mint would have.
I dunno...after reading some of the posts in this thread, makes me wonder.

I think most including me would be very happy with something in between.
A Danbury mint car runs around $100+ if I am not mistaken, but therein lies the problem...not everyone wants to pay even $50 for a die-cast car.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me say this: I begged...threatened....even tried to hold one guy outta the windows on the 29th floor (OK, I lied about that last one.....) to get someone to do a scale model of the 4th gen with the MCE (1998 and beyond)

Maisto? Forget 'em......wouldn't even consider it. Another one (can't remember the name of the top of my head) would only agree to it if I bought 10,000 of them. (I had to remind him that GM is in the business of SELLING cars, not BUYING them....)

Welly came along and was pleased to do so. Yes, the proportions of the cowl forward are WAY off.........(and it made me crazy for a while...) but the alternative was to have NO diecast.................

so........God Bless Welly!

Remember....this is a concept at this point......there are not going to be a lot of takers that want to make diecasts at this point in time.........now...when the car actually gets produced, Katie, bar the doors!

I assume that Maisto will get around to making some nice 1:24 and 1:64 scales models...eventually.

Got my 1:24 2006 Solstice yesterday. Its sweet!

The back glass is bubbled out and rounded kinda funny, making the green house look stretched from side profile. The spokes look funny and is not angled inward, the tires looks like it belongs to a truck, the side walls are flat. Disc brakes looks like 14" and the center of the rotor looks huge. The wheels/tires look like scaled down 15" wheels. From the side the entire area inside the tire(wheels/brakes) looks gray. The rear bumper angled down way too much and looks like they shaped it differently on the bottom edge. On top of that it looks thin and saggy.

A no name brand like Sun Star did a way better job of the 1982 Z28 then Welly. On top of that, the T-roofs were removable. If you took a close up pic on the ground with it, it can kinda pass as a real life car. All for the hefty price of $14.99. Of all the 14.99 - 19.99 models I have, the Welly SS is by far the worst looking.

And yes the size matters, just as a 1:64 scale Match box has less detail and realism than a 1:32 scale, so is the difference between a 1:24 and 1:18.

I have no gripes with any of the other die cast I've bought, but when I look at the Welly SS Camaro But I have no choice, it's the only one out there.

What always ticked me off was that there was no 96/97 Camaro SS in diecast. Or even a hardtop 93-97.

I would have bought a 30th anniversary and a black one to match my car.

A 93-97 style or 98-02 style ZL1 would have been killer.

I disagree on the Sun Star thing. Those T-tops suck on my model. The SS wasn't great but for the price it was pretty normal to me. The SS is probably not the worst model I have in the 15-20 dollar range but I have a lot of models.

Yeah I wanted a 97 SS LT4 model and a 2002 ZL1 or convertible 35th anniversary model. Also a 92 Heritage Edition Z28 Coupe.

But didn't Hot Wheels do a cast of the Hummer H3T concept? And I know I've seen the Mustang concept in model form. I'd think with the popularity of THIS concept, someone would see the opportunity here.

Thanks for the reply Scott. I wasn't familiar with this term. Would the change in 74 be considered a MCE as well.

Re: So where is the 1/18 diecast 5th gen?

I can't even find 1/18 scale 3rd or 4th gens dammit. I bid on some 91Z28 models of the do-it-yourself variety that were even the same color as my car, but I got bid snipered on both of them.
