The bad thing is, if the leak WAS repairable, it won't be after you put the fix-a-flat in it.
So yeah, it'll get ya rolling (hopefully), but at what cost?
I would never, ever, ever, ever use that stuff.

I'm sure someone will make a 17" donut rim & tire. That really is the best way to go.

With how expensive the tires are going to be on the 20 and 21 inch wheels, taking a shot in the dark at hoping that goo will seal the tire is a gamble I wouldn't want to take since if you use it and it doesn't seal, you can't get the tire patched by a shop.
im betting they didnt just throw it in and say" well lets hope this works" im sure they did some testing and its probably a pretty solid job. yeah it may be bad for the tire, it may not. i dont know. but its the price you have to pay to have the car. if you dont like it, you can buy a spare tire. but which one are you goign to need? the front or the rear? they are 2 sizes you know?

you want a 17" donut sitting in your trunk? not only is it heavy, but its not going to fit in the "donut well". i sure as hell dont want a 20+lbs extra tire in the back of my performance, and already over weight, car. maybe they can do like my hummer and throw a 5th wheel on the back

Does anyone besides me use those plugs? They've saved me a couple of times and don't require fix a flat. You could always pull them and have it patched later, but I've never had a problem with leaving them in.

Not that much more. When it comes to high performance Z rated tires, especially with a 20" wheel size, run-flat versus non-run flat are not that much different in price.

i think putting a full size 20" spare would be a little much. it doesnt really bother me that there isnt a spare. if i were getting a vette, id be in the same boat. i have only had 1 flat in my entire driving career. im not concerned about it.
If you were to buy a C6 they come with the Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT tires. They are actually a pretty good balance between performance and the extra security of not worrying about a spare, then being able to drive 50 or miles in order to get the tire fixed/replaced.

I have used plugs a bunch of times before. I like patches better, but there are disadvantges with them as well. Patches are more expensive than plugs and they require having the tire pulled off the wheel of the car. When they pull the tire off the wheel, they almost always wind up scrapping the wheel, which just plain sucks!

Carrying a 20 inch wheel, with a tire measuring around 28 inches in diamter, thats a BIG wheel and tire package.
17's wont fit over the big brakes in the rear, it would have to be an 18 inch wheel with a small space saver type tire on it.

You just described Fix-A-Flat. It's not necessarily made by the same company, but it's more or less the same thing.

Can some engineer come to NJ area?!?!? PLEASE?!?!!?

And I belive that I read a press release that the company Slime will be the offical tire repair kit for GM, and will debut in the Camaro. Slime is a green goo that can be found at most auto parts retailers.

Not may be bad, it IS bad for the tire. I know for a fact it is.

And I bet I could find a donut rim and a donut tire combo to fit over the brakes, fit both front & rear, and fit in the spare tire well. And if I couldn't, I'm sure some company will come up with something.

And 20 lbs extra won't bother me. Peace of mind is worth a LOT more than saving 20 lbs of weight.

Honestly, in 28 years of driving, I've had just four times where I've needed to change a tire on the side of the road, and only on two of those occasions did I use the spare:

1) October of '87 in the deep of the Australian outback due to catostrophic descruction of the tire on my 4X4
2) April of 1991 on the Trans Am: Shoved a Champion spark plug through the tire, and drove it to the service station before going flat. The tire was double-plugged and it lasted as long as the other three.
3) July of 2000 on the Trans Am: Someone made this three-pointed star thing out of razor blades and put it on the road. It cut through the tire and destroyed it, but not until I made it into work. I got a ride home and picked up a spare race tire & installed it for the day.
4) December of 2006: Shoved a no-name 7/16 open-end wrench through the tread of the Pirelli on the Jeep. Too bad it wasn't a Craftsman. Tire was destroyed, and I had to use the spare.

So, in 28 years, I've only had two occasions to ever use a spare, and don't even carry one in the Trans Am anymore. I think a spare tire is less useful than they once were, since roads are more developed than in the distant past. Of course, roads *are* getting worse, these days....

A new car without a spare tire probably doesnt bug me that much, though I'd rather see the Cigarette lighter and ashtray disappear first. People shouldn't smoke in their cars. That is just sinful, sick and wrong!!!

Anyway, the reason I joined this thread was to report this sexy black 2010 Camaro SS M6 that I saw in Haslett yesterday. The powertrain engineer who had it was assigned the car looked very happy, and he said that his job assignment was to just drive it! WOW, what a job! I first asked him, "Are you Cheryl, John, or Scott??" He said he didn't know those three people so I happily informed him who they are. We talked Camaros for a few minutes. He said "You'd look good in a car like this," and I said "Yes, I know!", but then I had to point out my new Avvie that was parked next to him.

yeah depending on the size and damage to the tire. its not guaranteed to work all the time. my dads vette got a bunjee cord in the tire and he barley got home 10 miles down the road before the tire was flat.

ill just use the road side service. and if im in a hurry ill use the goo. and if its really that bad for the tire, ill buy a new one. butthe odds are i wont be in a hurry and ill have the roadside serive come out and have them repair the tire for me. this isnt even worth having a discusion over. everyone has their different opinions and everyone is not going to agree or view things the same way. spare tires, to me are useless. i used mine once and that was because i didnt have my cell phone to call someone.
