Texting....

Re: Texting....
i dont have face book. dont really have time for that stuff.
even making a phone call is distracting enough. if your phone has a lock mode, you need to unlock it, find your contacts and then make the call. this is more distracting than you think. so its not just texting....its the whole phone in general. their not what they used to be. there alot more complex and involved than just pressing up or down and send.
and speaking of distracting....Why the "F" does chevy promote updating your facebook status on the mirror?!?!? talk about distracting! this has to be the dumbest thing i hae ever heard of. when my wife first saw the cruze commercial that lets you update your facebook status, she looks at me and said..." just because of that feature, i will never buy a chevy". this is a feature that should not be on a car. dont preach no texting and driving, and about how we should be so safe on the road, when theres a option to update your facebook page while driving......

Re: Texting....
^ I don't think you can update it? I think it just reads the status??? I don't know I might be wrong.
and making/receiving calls from my 2SS is so easy... I just press the call button in the steering wheel and say "Call Wifey" dials my wife if I need to talk to her. I don't have to reach for my phone at all... if I need to take a business call same thing... it's not any worse than having a passenger talking to you while you drive.
why do you have to unlock the phone to answer calls? did you bluetooth it??? or let me guess.. it's an iphone?
(let's not turn this into an iphone lover/hater thread) lol

Re: Texting....
yeah the facebook thing is to update your status. or so the commercial states.
and my phone is a droid. i have to do a code to unlock it to make a call. i dont have mine sync'd to my car. and my hummer doesnt have blutooth to do it in there either. but making a regular call if you dont have blu tooth is just as distracting as texting. your searching through your phone to find who you want to call. still involves looking up at the road and down at your phone a few times.
are there any studies that show who text while driving more? im curious if its men or women.... i went to DC last weekend with my wife. it seemed like every car that was all over the road, when we pulled up to them, they were texting or talking on the phone. and it seems like every mini van we saw was a woman driver talking on her phone or holding it on top of the wheel texting. i even saw some semi truck drivers doing this!

Re: Texting....
First of all, I really don't know why people perceive it to be such a big deal with 1: Just don't drink if you plan on driving, or 2: do like I did; when I knew I was going to a party, I was planning on getting tore up, I would simply STAY THERE! or if I found one of my sober buddies that was willing to drive me home then cool.. I found a ride.. I used to have a FIRM rule of if I'm driving, I will NOT have more than one beer.. i don't give a $^@T about the time frame.. No more than one.. If it's one, I am planing on staying at that location for a couple hours anyway.. (I quit drinking about 2.5 years ago)
Would someone seriously consider themselves less of a man if they ask for a ride or call a cab??? I never did.. Personally, I would respect someone more if they called a cab or found a ride vs "I'm.. *hiccup* good... I'll be fine drive home.. *Burrrrrp*."
If I know I need to text something, I just pull over at the next parking lot or cut-off. Personally; I really hate talking on the phone. And if I'm in the car w someone who's trying to txt and drive, I'll offer to do it for them...

Re: Texting....
my wife always yells at me when i check my messages. i try not to text while driving. mainly because i cant see what im typing and it feels like it takes too long. so i try not to text unless im stopped in traffic. but i do check mail and messages while driving. and she checks hers while driving.

-- and that is the same as having two or more drinks before climbing behind the wheel. I say this because GM as well as the IIHS and others have all tested and retested this hypothesis - and a human simply cannot text and drive at the same time without their driving being SUBSTANTIALLY impaired....
In fact - there is evidence that in-depth conversation can impair driving.........
Please stop.
Not only are you putting yourselves at risk, but you are putting all of US at risk as well...........and it isn't worth ruining your life.......
(.........and we'd like to have you around for many more years - and not in prison!)

Re: Texting....
stop having an in depth conversation while driving? this is getting a little carried away..... where does it stop? apparently facebook is allowed in cars on the mirrors but conversations arent now.
